BASKETBALL

Durango Hills offers Itty Bitty hoops

The Durango Hills YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, will hold Itty Bitty basketball sessions beginning on Sept. 7 for children ages 3-5.

The sessions will be held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. on Fridays. Parent participation is required.

Adult program planned at new YMCA

The Centennial Hills Community Center YMCA, 6601 N. Buffalo Drive, will hold a 5-on-5 recreational basketball league for adults ages 21 and over.

The league will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesdays, with a new session scheduled to start on Saturday.

TBA holds signups for fall games

The Tarkanian Basketball Academy is taking registration for the 2007 Fall Basketball Recreation League.

YMCA announces youth academy

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, is offering a basketball academy for youth ages 7-17 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The academy will be run by coach Brian Sitter of National Junior Basketball.

Jerseys and shorts will be provided. Players can sign up on the first of each month. The cost is $82.

The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites boys and girls ages 6-14 to participate in fall Saturday flag football leagues.

The Summerlin Junior Golf Academy summer camps, for children ages 9-17, are being held throughout the summer at Angel Park Golf Course.

Council recognizes Bonanza athlete

Bonanza High School student-athlete Carlos Martinez was recognized at the Aug. 15 Las Vegas City Council meeting for being named to the U.S. Under-15 Boys National Soccer Team.

The 15-year-old honor student has more than 50 medals and has participated in soccer tournaments globally.

Heinrich YMCA plans Soccer 101
