DEVELOPMENT ISSUES: The hills are alive
City of Henderson seeking input on blasting regulations

Not even a year after Henderson ratified its regulations on blasting hillsides on the southern edge of the city for residential development, residents' complaints have brought the issue back under the microscope.

At the request of the City Council, city staff is seeking input from three stakeholder groups -- blasting companies, developers and residents -- to make the development practice more tolerable for those who live nearby, said a fire official overseeing the ordinance's redrafting.

Nevada Wildcats exceed expectations at N.Y. tournament

They traveled over 2,528 miles and raised over $40,000 to do so, but the Nevada Wildcats returned to Las Vegas with a lifetime of memories and a large trophy after winning the championship game at Cooperstown Dreams Park for Week No. 10 on Aug. 24 in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Expectations for the team weren't as high as winning a title heading east, but longtime coach Tim Oakley said he knew the group, which has played together for about five years, could successfully represent Las Vegas during the weeklong baseball fest, which ran from Aug. 19-26.
