Dog days of summer
Event celebrates 10 years helping Humane Society

Hills Park in Summerlin played host to man's best friend on May 7 with the 10th annual Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon. The event benefited the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society.

The park probably never sees so many canines at one time -- at least 1,000 dog owners were there, some with two or three pets on a leash -- but it also saw responsible pet owners.

Rising to the challenge
Female fighter determined to win first pro bout

She sticks out like a sore thumb. At first glance, in a room full of tall and muscular boxers, the 5-foot-3-inch Christina Kwan looks like someone who accidentally stumbled into the wrong place.

But after watching her spar with former World Boxing Organization (WBO) world junior welterweight champion DeMarcus "Chop Chop" Corley at the Top Rank Gym, 3041 Business Lane, in preparation for her professional boxing debut, it's quite evident this is not some little girl who wants to do what the boys do -- this is a pugilist intent on leaving her mark as well as making a name for herself in the sport.
