Super Summer Theatre sets schedule

Super Summer Theatre recently announced its 31st annual lineup of shows under the stars, featuring "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," "Return to the Forbidden Planet," "Bells are Ringing" and "Noises Off."

The annual theater series is presented in the mountain setting of Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," is scheduled to run June 14 through July 1. Tickets can be purchased at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office, online at UNLVtickets.com or by calling 895-2787.

Youth group to present 'The Little Mermaid'

The Rainbow Company, an acclaimed youth theater group, will present 11 June performances of "The Little Mermaid" at the Charleston Heights Arts Center Theater, 800 S. Brush St.

Shows are set for 7 p.m. June 2, 3, 8, 9 and 10, and at 2 p.m. June 4, 10 and 11. This is the original classic version of the Hans Christian Andersen tale. Tickets are $3 for children, $5 for teens and seniors and $7 for adults.

Snow Mountain Powwow coming up

The Las Vegas Paiute Tribe plans to celebrate American Indian culture with Southern Nevadans at the 18th annual Snow Mountain Powwow starting Friday.

The first grand entry is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday. On Saturday two sessions are planned, the first beginning at noon and second beginning at 7 p.m. On Sunday, grand entry will be at noon. The powwow is scheduled until midnight on Friday and Saturday, and will end Sunday at 4 p.m.

The powwow will include artisans and crafters hosting booths with jewelry, pottery, flutes, traditional music and baskets available for purchase. There will be a traditional bird singing and dance exhibition from tribes of Southern California and the Colorado River area. Food items like fry bread and Indian Tacos will be available for purchase.

Admission is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and free for children 10 and under. Weekend passes are $10. Parking is free. The Las Vegas Paiute Snow Mountain Indian Reservation is approximately 20 miles north of Las Vegas via U.S. 95 North, using Exit 95 to Snow Mountain.

Family movie night set at Becker

The city of Las Vegas will present a showing of "The Incredibles" for its Free Movie in the Park event at 9:30 p.m. Friday at Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road.

Bishop Gorman to host tasting, auction

Bishop Gorman High School announces its 12th annual Wine and Beer Tasting and Auction, set for 6:30 p.m. June 2 at Red Rock Resort. The event runs until 10 p.m. and is sponsored by DeLuca Liquor & Wine Ltd.

Young women's group plans greeting event

Hadassah Tikvah Young Women's Group is planning a meet-and greet for 6 p.m. Wednesday at Vasari in the Fashion Village at Boca Park.

Visitors can shop for summer fashions and learn more about Hadassah, the largest Zionist organization in North America. The Tikvah group is geared towards women age 45 and younger.

Brandeis group to install officers

Brandeis University National Women's Committee (BUNWC) announces its installation of officers and board brunch is set for 11 a.m. May 31 at Summit Restaurant in Sun City Summerlin, 2215 Thomas Ryan Blvd.

BUNWC offers women and men a variety of study groups for enlightenment, enrichment and socialization opportunities.

VOLUNTEERS

TIP seeking volunteers for crisis program

The Southern Nevada Chapter of the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) is seeking citizen volunteers for its crisis intervention program.

Volunteers are called by police officers, firefighters, or hospital personnel to assist citizens who are despondent, victims of burglary and robbery, family members of suicide or sudden death, family disputes, disoriented older persons and other crisis situations.

A volunteer training class begins June 8. No prior experience is necessary to become a volunteer.
