CHILDREN

Sign-ups start for summer day camp

Registration is open for the annual Winchester Cultural Center Arts and Learning Summer Day Camp for children ages 6 to 12.

The program runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from June 12 through Aug. 18 at the center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.

The cost is $80 per week and includes field trips, the Young People's Summer Concert Series, big-screen movies, and classes in dance, sign language, arts and crafts, theater and skateboarding.

Weekly Wednesday field trips whisk children away to local recreational destinations. The summer will end with a variety show, when campers will showcase what they learned.

Inventions show set at South Coast

The Big Boy Toys Show will be presented from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday , 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday at the South Coast Events Center, 9777 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The show will feature guest speakers, new inventions and more. Admission is $12. Children under the age of 10 get in for free.

Ms. Senior Nevada participants sought

Applications are being accepted for the Ms. Senior Nevada pageant, scheduled for Aug. 28-30 at the Suncoast.

The pageant is open to all women ages 60 and over who are citizens of the United States and residents of Nevada.

Free vascular disease screenings offered

Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center will offer S.A.V.E. Lifeline Screenings for vascular disease free of charge for qualified participants.

Limited to the first 90 successful applicants, the screenings will take place at Sunrise Hospital and consist of a comprehensive medical check for abdominal aortic aneurysms, peripheral artery disease and carotid artery disease.

S.A.V.E. Lifeline Screenings, sponsored by Medtronics, will be offered by appointment only from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 25. To make an appointment, call 1-866-220-7283

Free cancer resource guide available

Cancer Matters, a free booklet for cancer patients, offers information about dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

The guide is available at all seven locations of the Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada; the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave.; Center for Compassionate Care, 4141 Swenson St.; and the Ovarian Cancer Alliance of Nevada , 2827 Utica Circle.
