Arthur, who has a show at the Tropicana called "Xtreme Magic," has an extreme backyard, so to speak.

For the first time in about four decades, a new library is opening in North Las Vegas.

At 2400 Deer Springs Way, the Aliante Library is the new jewel in the North Las Vegas Library District's tiara. It replaces the old 4528 W. Craig Road branch, which recently closed and contributed its stock of roughly 20,000 volumes to the new site, said district director Anita Laruy.

Dennis Griffin made a career out of law enforcement in New York state and then writing crime mysteries.

But despite being knee-deep in the field, when the part-time Las Vegas resident saw the movie "Casino," he had no idea that the parts played by Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone were based on real organized crime characters who plagued Las Vegas during the 1970s and early 1980s.

It's the cry heard almost daily by every frazzled mother: What's for dinner?

Elite team of skaters battles rivals on track on behalf of Las Vegas

By KEVIN STOTT
VIEW STAFF WRITER

It's hard to imagine a sport that lets spectators get any closer to the action or the competitors than flat track roller derby.

In this violent rolling ballet, where many of the spectators bring chairs and sit right on the fringe of the track, a skater could come tumbling into your lap at any moment and make you feel like part of the action. Two hours later, you could be buying her a shot and a beer at one of the local bars where the team religiously gets together after every bout.
