CCSN will hold its Spring Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheyenne campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Open to local residents as well as CCSN students, the fair will feature dozens of employers in the June Whitley Student Center.
More than 50 employers will conduct a variety of activities, including providing company information and job applications, accepting resumes, scheduling interviews and holding on-site interviews.

Taste of the Nation coming Wednesday
Taste of the Nation Las Vegas is planned for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Las Vegas Convention Center's South Hall Lobby, 3150 Paradise Road. The event combines the art of cooking with the art of giving -- 100 percent of the proceeds go to feed the needy.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, Community Food Bank of Clark County, UNCE Chef for Kids and Project Manna. Tickets are $70 per person.
Canyon Gate Country Club, 2001 Canyon Gate Drive, will host the sixth annual Taste of the Westside event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday to benefit The Shade Tree Organization. This year's participants include Nora's Cuisine, Habib's Persian Cuisine, Fellini's and The Melting Pot. Each restaurant will bring samples from their menus for attendees to enjoy.
"We always look forward to this event because it allows people to sample wonderful restaurants and it also benefits a great cause," said Gina Ball, the country club's member relations director.
The Shade Tree Shelter of Homeless and Abused Women and Children assists and provides shelter for women and children who are in crisis while offering life-changing services promoting stability, dignity and self-reliance.
Tickets are $25 per person. The price includes access to the food stations from all the restaurants. There will be a cash bar.

Pride Week to include art show on Saturday
The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada announces Pride Week 2006. The week includes the Colors of Pride Art Show slated for 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at 953 E. Sahara Ave., Suite B31. Admission is free.

Youth plan benefit for hospital ward
Becker Community School's Teen Scene group will hold its second annual Carnival of Care from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the school, 9110 Hillpointe Road, next to Hills Park.
Families will enjoy carnival midway games, face painting, a jump house, a Ding Dong walk, live entertainment and raffles for a variety of donated prizes. A new, unwrapped toy for a child up to 18 years old or $5 cash will buy 25 carnival tickets. Fresh pizza and other refreshments will be for sale.
Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase toys and will be distributed to the children at Sunrise Children's Hospital's leukemia ward along with the donated toys.

Legend's daughter to host awards gala
Rasheda Ali, author and daughter of legendary boxer Muhammad Ali will be the mistress of ceremonies for the Create Your Dreams Awards Gala, planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at Caesars Palace. The event will benefit The Shade Tree shelter.
Ali's recently released book, " Hold Your Hand So You Won't Fall - A Children's Guild to Parkinson's Disease," recounts the interaction between her children and her famous father, who suffers from the disease. The event is sponsored by the Moms in Business Network.
The third annual Hats off to Child Focus Mother's Day Tea is planned for 1 to 3 p.m. May 13 at the Valencia Room at JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd. Expect high tea and a fashion show with special entertainment for young attendees.
Tickets are $40 per adult and $25 per child 10 and under. The event benefits Child Focus, a nonprofit organization which provides resources and services to enrich the lives of children living in foster care.

NVCI dedicates research facility
Nevada Cancer Institute dedicated its research wing to the commitment and dedication of John Robert Murren, M.D., a founder of the Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI).
Murren, an oncologist and researcher at Yale University, succumbed to melanoma in December at age 47.
"The history of Nevada is marked with milestones where great people have emerged to provide leadership and to meet the needs and challenges of the time," said Ikram Kahn, M.D. a member of the NVCI Board of Directors at the dedication ceremony. "Inevitably, these individuals have made an enduring impact on the people of Nevada. One of these people was John Murren."
The research wing is dedicated to basic, translational and population science. NVCI's faculty has grown to 18, with an overall staff of 200. The institute's research and care center was dedicated in September.
A nonprofit organization, NVCI has raised more than $70 million in private community financial support, with additional support of a repayable $50 million construction bond for NVCI's 142,000-square-foot flagship research and care facility in Summerlin. It opened in September.
The Las Vegas Astronomical Society plans a special program at the Red Rock Conservation Area celebrating Astronomy Day on Saturday. The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Visitor Center and will feature special telescopes to view sun spots and solar flares.
Astronomy related programs will be presented in the Visitor Center throughout the day.
The evening program is planned for the Sandstone Quarry parking area, approximately 3 miles past the Visitor Center on the Scenic Loop Road. Telescopes will be set up for viewing the night sky and a Sky Tonight program will be presented at 9 p.m.
Both programs are free and open to the public. There is a $5-per-car park entrance fee for the day program and those attending the evening program must arrive before the park gates close at 8:00 p.m.
The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Hiking Tour is planned for 7 to 11 a.m. May 10.
Lola Henio, coordinator for Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, will lead a group into the canyon and give a tour of a major petroglyph site. The moderately strenuous hike is limited to 20 people.

Annual dog event returns to Hills Park
The Las Vegas Valley Humane Society will hold the 10th annual Wag-A-Tail Walk-A-Thon at 8 a.m. Sunday at Hills Park in Summerlin.
John Fredericks of KVBC-TV Channel 3 will emcee. Contests will be held, including Stupid Pet Tricks, working dog demos, music from DJ Sight & Sound, free refreshments, a gourmet lunch, free professional photography, corporate sponsor booths and giveaways and prizes.
