Firefighters placed at the scene of mock school bus accident

By MARK SMITH
VIEW STAFF WRITER

There is little that sends chills racing up the spines of emergency responders than a report that a school bus has been in a bad accident -- a school bus loaded with youngsters, some of whom are likely injured and in desperate need of medical aid and comfort.

That was the scenario on April 17 at the Nevada Pic-A-Part wrecking yard at 5090 N. Lamb Boulevard as the North Las Vegas Fire Department conducted a full-blown mass casualty extrication drill.

"I chose the Coast Guard because I love the water and I like their sports program," said Graves, 18.

Red Rock Resort suites offer plenty of space and amenities

By JAN HOGAN
VIEW STAFF WRITER

Though they might be used to getting treated and pampered, even VIP guests must be impressed with the amenities at the recently opened Red Rock Resort, particularly those available to visitors lucky enough to be staying in a VIP suite.

Upon pulling up to the valet, the VIP is greeted and the front desk is discreetly alerted via the doorman's microphone ear-piece. Approaching the front desk, the guest is greeted by name and offered refreshing hand towels -- called oshibori -- at the perfect temperature to complement that day's climate. Fresh fruit such as chocolate-dipped strawberries is there as well.

Anthem resident opens business, uses rock tunes to teach

By MARIA PHELAN

When Jonathan Robbins sings the "Welcome Song" that kicks off every session of morning classes at the Rock and Roll Kids Play Gym, he really gets into it, even though he's practically alone in his office. Swaying to his own beat while smiling and emoting a welcoming vibe, it's easy to imagine Robbins as the center of attention, even in a room full of toddlers.

When Jonathan, an Anthem resident and owner of the Anthem-area business, broke the song off about 30 seconds in to explain its origins, he was still just as exuberantly energetic.

The kids were participating in the Sagebrush-Ranch spring break horse camp, held April 10 through 14 at the new Sagebrush-Ranch location in Floyd Lamb State Park, 9200 Tule Springs Road.

It's not often that a defending national champion collegiate sports program looks at Las Vegas to try to find high school talent, but that was the case when the University of Michigan signed Spring Valley High School senior softball player Molly Bausher to a national letter of intent earlier this year.

Playing the sport since she was 4 years old, the speedy left-handed leadoff batter caught the eye of the national champion Wolverines while playing for the Worth Firecrackers Gold 18-and-under club team based out of Huntington Beach, Calif.

Eagles optimistic about Class 3A baseball season

By JIM KONST
SPECIAL TO VIEW

The members of the Boulder City High School varsity baseball team have started the 2006 season in fine fashion, defeating several Class 4A schools and putting the other Southern Class 3A schools on notice that it will be a force to be reckoned with this year.

"I'm very optimistic about our team this year," head coach Bill Strachan said. "We're going to have to have more multi-position players than we've ever had in the past, though. With starting catcher sophomore Jordan Vivone suffering a shoulder injury, we've had to move a lot of people around to shore up the catching position. With all of our utility guys, we can compete and have been playing some good ball."
