Staying in calm waters
Park kicks off season with Boat Safety Day

As temperatures rise in the valley, many residents' thoughts turn to long days on Lake Mead.

In preparation for the busy season, officials at Lake Mead Nation Recreation Area are preparing to kick off the summer with a Boat Safety Day at the lake offering plenty of tips for safe enjoyment of the national park.

Wildcats extend claws
Las Vegas High again class of Northeast Division

Last season, the Las Vegas High School softball team made it all the way to the state playoffs before suffering losses to Silverado and eventual state champion McQueen.

This season, the Wildcats hope to go a bit further in the postseason, and despite losing their head coach and several key players to graduation, have a chance to make the 2006 season one of the most memorable in the program's long history.
