The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will present its fifth annual Reading Las Vegas program for adults ages 18 and older from Saturday through April 30.

The program will feature book discussions with authors, book appraisals and more, including a discussion of a new book about Las Vegas mob enforcer Tony "the Ant" Spilotro.

Participants may sign up at any district library branch to receive program guidelines. Completion and return on an entry coupon will make participants eligible to win prizes.

The monthlong event will offer:

An evening with Christopher Moore. Moore is a USA Today bestselling author whose latest title is the humorous "A Dirty Job," about a man named Charlie Asher whose life suddenly takes weird detours when people start to die around him. He will discuss his work at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Sessions to learn how to download audiobooks. Tips on downloading titles to media players, PDAs or computers will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive; 2 p.m. April 9 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.; and at 6 p.m. April 19 at the Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive.

Discussions led by members of the Southern Nevada Booksellers Association regarding antiquarian, rare and used books. Members also will offer appraisals of two books apiece for the first 15 persons in attendance. The events are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Las Vegas Library, 833 N. Las Vegas Blvd.; 2 p.m. April 23 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway; 3:30 p.m. April 23 at the Spring Valley Library, 4280 S. Jones Blvd.; and 3 p.m. April 30 at the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave.

A presentation by Jaime Estrada, author of "Julio Cesar Chavez: El Cesar del Boxeo." Estrada will discuss the career of Mexico's most famous boxer Cesar Chavez and autograph his books after the program. The visit will be conducted in Spanish from 7 to 8:30 p.m. April 4 at the theater inside the Whitney Library, 5175 E. Tropicana Ave.

A chance to meet writer Cindi Broaddus. The author of "A Random Act: An Inspiring True Story of Fighting to Survive and Choosing to Forgive" suffered acid burns in a random act of violence. Broaddus is the sister-in-law of television personality Dr. Phil and has appeared on programs such as "Larry King Live" and "The Today Show." She will appear at 2 p.m. April 7 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road; 11 a.m. April 8 at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.; and at 3 p.m. April 8 at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.

A chance to meet author Bill McWilliams, who wrote the 2000 book "A Return to Glory: The Untold Story of Honor, Dishonor and Triumph at the United States Military Academy 1950-53." It was the basis for the recent ESPN movie "Codebreakers." McWilliams will appear at 7 p.m. April 8 at the Las Vegas Library, 833 N. Las Vegas Blvd.; 7 p.m. April 11 at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Lake Mead Blvd., and at 2:30 p.m. April 22 at the Green Valley Library, 2797 N. Green Valley Parkway.

The art and artifice of audiobook narration. An award-winning narrator of audiobooks, George Guidall will appear at 2 p.m. April 23 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road, to read from selections of his work, answer questions, and talk about the process of creating an audiobook.

The movie "Casino" and a Q-and-A session with Dennis Griffin, author of a new book about the late Mafia enforcer Tony Spilotro titled "The Battle of Las Vegas." At 6:30 p.m. April 26, a session at the Clark County Library with Griffin will follow a 3:30 p.m. screening of the movie "Casino," in which Joe Pesci played Nicky Santoro, the character based on Spilotro, who was apparently targeted by the Chicago mob in the mid-1980s. Griffin will be joined for the discussion by former FBI agent Denis Arnoldy, who played a role in bringing down Spilotro's so-called Hole-in-the-Wall gang in Las Vegas. Interest in Spilotro's case has been piqued in the wake of last year's federal indictments in Chicago that led this past January to the arrest of Joey "the Clown" Lombardo, who is suspected of involvement in the murder of Spilotro and his brother.

An evening with Tim Dorsey, creator of serial killer Serge Storms. Dorsey's over-the-top crime novels, all based in Florida and featuring a serial killer as the protagonist, have been compared to those of Dave Barry and Carl Hiaasen. He will appear at 7 p.m. April 27 at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. His eight Serge Storms books include "Torpedo Juice," "Cadillac Beach" and his latest, "The Big Bamboo."
