Guinn appoints pair to state board
William "Bruce" King and Guy Wells have been appointed to the Nevada State Contractors Board by Gov. Kenny Guinn.
King is president of Pete King Nevada Corp., a North Las Vegas-based painting and drywall company licensed since 1961.Wells is president of Wells Cargo Inc., a general engineering and building company based in Las Vegas and licensed since 1941.

Baby sitter recognized as safe sitter of year
UMC's Family Resource Center's Safe Sitter program has named Ashley Johnson its Safe Sitter of the Year for 2006.
Johnson graduated from the program more than five years ago, but credits it with enabling her to use the Heimlich maneuver to save the life of a 4-year-old who was choking on a penny.
Safe Sitter is a nationally certified program comprised of specially trained instructors teaching adolescents ages 11-13 how to care for a child in a baby-sitting role. For more information on the program, call 383-2000 or visit www.umcsn.com.

Henderson nurse obtains certification
The Lamaze International Certification Council announced that Poppy Helgren of Henderson has completed requirements to become a Lamaze-certified childbirth educator.
Helgren is a registered nurse at Valley Hospital and has been a Henderson resident for 13 years.
CHARITY
Allstate Foundation awards 26 grants
Grants totaling $61,000 were awarded to 26 Nevada community organizations last year by the Allstate Foundation, a charitable organization focused on fostering strong communities.
The grants included $15,000 for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas for its Gang Prevention Through Targeted Outreach program. Also, $5,000 was awarded to Ambassador Productions Outreach in Reno to support anti-gang programs for middle school students.
