You know you're going to meet interesting people when they call themselves the Hot Pink Mamas.
It's the name of one of the newest female networking organizations in Las Vegas.
"We named it that because women 35 and up have hormonal issues. That's where the pink in the name came from," said Marina Hallows, vice president of the group. "You always see women fanning themselves. They're pink, because of the hot flashes."
Hot flashes or not, the group encourages women to listen to interesting topics at monthly meetings, network to grow their circle of associates and receive discounts at each other's businesses.
It's a networking group, but don't expect the meetings to dwell solely on business aspects.
Upcoming topics include: How To Prevent Destructive Patterns in Relationships; Why Do I Keep Doing What I am Doing?; Change Your Hormones -- Change Your Life; and Increase Your Sexuality.
"We noticed that many other organizations are very dry and structured," said Wendy Ruby, founder and president. "We decided that fun comes first with Hot Pink Mamas."
The group meets from 6 to 9 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month at the Lakeside Center, 2620 Regatta Drive, Suite 102, in Desert Shores. The meetings are open to all women of Las Vegas at no charge.
Membership in the Hot Pink Mamas requires an annual fee of $199 but there are no monthly dues. A portion of the membership fee, 10 percent, is set aside for charity, with the exact recipient yet to be selected.
Members can host a table to introduce others to their products or services.
Don't be surprised if another member has the same job description. That's done intentionally to include more women.
The group already is experiencing the dynamic nature of Las Vegas. Though it was formed in November, it already lost one of its key members and educational coordinator. She moved out of state.
The new networking group operates under the slogan, "Women Helping Women."
