The Boys & Girls Clubs of Henderson will be holding T-Ball registration until March 24 or until the league is full.
The league is open to boys and girls ages 5 through 8. Participants must be in kindergarten or higher.
Volunteers, volunteer coaches and umpires also are needed. Registration is $40 per child, which includes uniform and club membership.
The pre-season tourney begins April 13. League play runs from April 18 through May 18 and will be followed by the postseason tournament on May 23.

Warriors seek club players
The LV Warriors Baseball Club is looking for players age 9 to 10 for competitive play.
The club is seeking aggressive players who love to play baseball and would like to be involved long-term in a club that plays local leagues, local tournaments and some tournaments in neighboring states.

Two Patriots commit to Mesa
Liberty High School seniors Kyle Peccorino and Anthony Reveles have committed to play at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Ariz., next year.
Peccorino led the Patriots in batting average (.467) and had 19 walks and 16 stolen bases in his junior year playing for Liberty coach Buck Thomas, while Reveles, a two-sport athlete (wrestling-basketball), hit .414 for Liberty last spring and will battle for a spot in the outfield or at catcher for the Thunderbirds in Mesa.
MCC, coached by Tony Cirelli and a member of the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference, which exclusively uses wood bats, has made appearances in the last two Division II World Series and has made the playoffs in 17 of the last 20 years.
BASKETBALL
St. Anne wins junior high title
St. Anne's beat St. Viator's in overtime, 73-67, to win the Catholic Junior High School championship as Anson Winder scored 49 points for the winners.
St. Anne's, which went a perfect 10-0 on the year, was coached by Tom Hughes.
High school spring league forming
The 2006 adidas High School Basketball Spring League begins today.
The four-week season will consist of an eight-game schedule with no tournament, and all games will be played at the Tarkanian Basketball Academy, 2730 S. Rancho Drive.
There will be boys and girls varsity and junior varsity divisions. Boys varsity and JV games will be played from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursdays, while the girls varsity and JV games will be played from 4 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Each player will receive an official adidas uniform, learn from the finest high school and collegiate coaches, and get a chance to play two games a week in Las Vegas' most competitive spring league.
CHAMPS Youth Basketball is taking registration for its Spring Youth Basketball season.
League age is 8 through 18, with a competitive and a recreational league available. Leagues are formed on the west side of town and in Henderson for boys and girls, teams or individuals. All games are announced, and awards are given at every game to the MVP, as well as the Champ of the Game. The cost is $110 per player.
The league is directed by Steve Boyack, head basketball coach at Cimarron-Memorial High School, and he is assisted by other local high school head coaches. Champs cheerleading also is available.

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane, is accepting sign-ups for youth basketball cheerleading.

Ameli gives strong performance
Palo Verde High School freshman Kian Ameli, 14, representing the Fencing Academy of Nevada, won the eighth place medal in Cadet Men's Epee during the U.S. Fencing Association Junior Olympic Fencings on Feb. 16 in Hartford, Conn.
Ameli, still a fencer in the Youth 14 age 8 through 19, qualified at the Nevada qualifier to fence in the next two higher age groups: Cadet Under 17 and Junior Under 20 Men's Epee.

The Bill & Lillie Heinrich YMCA's Biggest Loser contest is under way and runs through May 20.
The cost is $20 for members and $80 for non-members, which includes YMCA membership during the contest.
The group that loses the most weight during this time wins the competition.

NYFL holds spring season registration
Nevada Youth Football League announced registration is under way for 11-man, full-contact football for the spring 2006 season. NYFL is the largest spring and fall league in Nevada.
Sign-ups for all players will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays and from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays until April 8 at 1651 S. Buffalo Drive.
To register, participants must have either a player identification card from NYFL, or an original birth certificate and utility bill.
For the Youth Division, ages 6 to 14, the registration cost is $160. For High School Division, ages 14 through 17, the cost is $260.
Payment may be made by cash or money order only. Players must be present for weigh-in and must be accompanied by a parent.
Practice is already under way, with games starting April 15. The season will conclude in mid-June.

A YMCA physical education program is being offered for families who home school their children.
The classes follow National YMCA Youth Fitness criteria and include everything from fitness and games to organized sports.
Sessions meet Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kindergarten to third-grade participants meet from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Fourth- and fifth-graders meet from 2:30-3:30 p.m. The cost is $75 for the first child and $60 for each additional sibling.

The LPGA Takefuji Classic is scheduled for April 11-16 at the Las Vegas Country Club, and tournament officials are looking for volunteers for all positions.

LV Strikers hold open tryouts
The Las Vegas Strikers are holding open tryouts to find the best soccer players in Southern Nevada for their 2006 National Premiere Soccer League season.

Players from the open tryouts may be asked by the Strikers' coaching staff to return for an invitation-only tryout and further evaluation.
The top players ultimately selected to the starting and reserve roster will earn a 20-game schedule against some of the top amateur and professional soccer teams.
The last two tryouts will be held today and Thursday at Green Valley High School, 460 Arroyo Grande Blvd. Registration will take place from 7 to 7:30 p.m., with a warm-up session set for 7:30 to 8 p.m. and tryouts set for 8 to 10 p.m. The registration fee is $20.
Tuesday night adult leagues forming
Cadwallader Elementary School is offering new 11-on-11 adult soccer leagues on Tuesday nights, beginning March 28.
The registration deadline is March 15. The team entry fee is $300, plus $250 for officials' fees. There will be a $75 charge for late registration.
Games will begin at 6:30, 7:45 and 9 p.m. at the soccer complex at Buffalo Drive and West Washington Avenue.
League formats will be: Over 40 Men (five players can be over 35); Over 30 Men (five players can be under 30); Open Men (ages 18-plus); and Open Women (ages 18-plus).

New season on tap in Henderson
The new season of senior softball for the Henderson Parks Department will begin on April 10, and the league is looking for players age 40 and over.

March fastpitch tourney scheduled
A March Madness youth softball tournament will be held from March 25 to 26 in Las Vegas.
There is a four-game guarantee, and the cost is $350 per team. The tournament is a Western World Series qualifier.
The Nevada Tennis Association's Novice Tourney Silver State Junior Open will be held March 17-21.
The Silver State is for more experienced juniors who want to face tougher competition. USTA membership is required to play in the event, and all match results count toward local and sectional rankings.
The tourney offers participants at least two matches, a tournament T-shirt, and a trophy/award for all champions and finalists.
The entry fee is $30 for singles and $40 per team for doubles.

New outdoor sand leagues to begin
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites sand volleyball teams to join new leagues that are forming for play at Centennial Hills Park, located at North Buffalo Drive and Elkhorn Road.
Competition will begin the week of March 20. Registration is now under way and will be by teams only. League play will continue for about seven weeks. Players must be at least 16 years of age to participate.
Coed teams of four will play on Monday nights at beginner and intermediate levels; registration is $100 per team. Women's and men's teams of two will play on Tuesday evenings at intermediate and advanced levels; registration is $50 per team. Coed beginner teams of six will compete on Thursday nights; registration is $150 per team.
Teams may have unlimited substitutes. Volleyballs, nets and outdoor courts will be provided.

Men's leagues slated to start
A new men's advanced volleyball league will begin on March 29 at the Dula Gymnasium, 441 E. Bonanza Road.

Registration will open on March 20. A maximum of 12 teams of four or more players each will be accepted.
Each team will have four players on the court at a time. Game times will be at 6:30, 7:30 or 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The league will last about seven weeks. Players need to wear comfortable clothing and rubber-soled gym shoes. Volleyballs, nets and indoor courts will be provided.
The league is sponsored by the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

Corporate Challenge Tune-up planned
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites volleyball teams with players ages 18 and older to participate in the Corporate Challenge Tune-up Volleyball League from 7 to 9 p.m. on Mondays from March 20 through April 24.
Team pre-registration is required and is open through March 17. The cost is $25 per person, plus officials' fees.
Rubber-soled gym shoes are required; volleyballs and nets will be provided. Games will be played in the Brinley Middle School gym at 2480 Maverick St., and in the Gibson Middle School gym at 3900 W. Washington Ave.
