DONATIONS

Women who give food can join Curves for free

Five Las Vegas Curves are holding a food drive through March 11. During that time, women can join for free if they bring in a bag of non-perishable groceries, which will be donated to local food banks.

Participating Curves locations are: 6000 S. Eastern Ave., No. 3B; 55 S. Valle Verde, No. 430; 9850 S. Maryland Parkway, No.9 in Silverado Ranch; 12211 S. Eastern Ave., No 100 in Anthem; 565 Marks St., No. 190.

Liver transplantation discussion scheduled

The Champions of Organ Sharing, a Southern Nevada organ transplant support group, will sponsor An Evening with Dr. Robert Gish from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on March 14 at the Flamingo Library Conference Room, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.

Seminar to address topic of meditation

Author Caroline Reynolds will present a seminar titled Exploring Meditation Practices from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the First Church of Religious Science, 1420 E. Harmon Ave.

Reynolds, author of "Spiritual Fitness -- How to Live in Truth and Trust," will speak on meditation and connecting with a higher power. The cost of the seminar is $25 for adults and $15 for youth. For more information, call 739-8200.

Wine to be on tap for tasting

The Monterey County Vintners and Growers Association is bringing more than 25 wineries from Monterey County to collaborate and showcase the fruit of their vines to the media, trade, and the public during the annual Monterey Wine Country Spring Tour on Thursday at RM Seafood Restaurant inside Mandalay Place.

The event will include a media and trade tasting from 2 to 5 p.m., and a consumer tasting from 6 to 9 p.m., which will include appetizers.

The consumer tasting is $45 per person, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit hospitality education scholarships through the Nevada Restaurant Association's Foundation. Reservations can be made by calling 831-375-9400 or visiting www.montereywines.org.

Musical Arts Singers to perform folk songs

The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society will present the 20-voice Musical Arts Singers in an afternoon of folk songs and familiar spirituals at 3 p.m. on Sunday in the Doc Rando Recital Hall inside the Beam Music Center on the UNLV campus.

The Musical Arts Singers will be joined by the Thurman White Middle School Madrigal Singers.

Folk songs will include "Buffalo Gals," "Skip to My Lou," "'Tis the Gift to Be Simple," and "Tambur," a Hungarian folk song.

The Musical Arts Singers, a chamber ensemble directed by Douglas R. Peterson, was founded in 1981. The Madrigal Singers are under the direction of Randy Pagel.

The price of admission is a $5 donation. The program is free to students with IDs. For more information, call 451-6672.
