Preserving the past
Local archeologist to restore cottages to original era

Most remodeling projects throw out the old and jazz things up with the new. Gary Seymour's remodeling project does just the opposite.

Seymour is an archeologist in charge of restoring four cottages, circa 1910, built for mid- to high-level railroad employees. The cottages were occupied until recently and were outfitted with things like modern phone wires and cable TV connections, neither of which existed when the cottages were built.

Middle school orchestra goes East
Saturday's variety show to help raise funds

VIEW STAFF WRITER

In late March, the chamber orchestra of Hyde Park Middle School plans to compete in Heritage Festivals' Festival of Gold, a national music competition on the East Coast. Hyde Park is the only middle school invited to the competition.

The cost of getting there is $1,200 per student. There are 32 students in the orchestra.
