Silverado High School senior Chad Robinson and Basic High School senior Kylee Hash were chosen on the first day of the Major League Baseball draft on June 6.
Robinson, a 6-foot-5-inch right-handed pitcher, was picked in the 12th round by the Milwaukee Brewers while Hash, a catcher, was selected in the 17th round by the world champion Chicago White Sox.
Foothill High School senior Kevin Kreier was selected as the 599th overall pick in the 20th round on the second day of the draft when he was picked by the Chicago Cubs.
Nevada Scorpions schedule tryouts
The Nevada Scorpion baseball club will be holding tryouts for its 8-, 9-, 10- and 11-and-under teams from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and July 1.
The NBA Toshiba Vegas Summer League is looking for responsible high school-aged students who would like to volunteer as player assistants for the upcoming NBA Summer League basketball games. Sixteen NBA teams will be playing a 40 game schedule at the Cox Pavilion from July 6-14.
Player assistants will be responsible for helping the teams and players on the bench during the games with ball boy duties. Volunteers must be available to work at a minimum of six games, have an interest in basketball and provide their own transportation to Cox Pavilion. Foothill plans camp for June
Foothill Falcon basketball will hold it seventh annual summer basketball camp in the Foothill High School gym, 800 College Drive in Henderson.
The camp is open to boys and girls entering grades three through nine and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through June 29.
The $90 registration fee will include a personal evaluation, a camp T-shirt, instruction and competition.

Green Valley High holds camp sign-ups
Green Valley High School is accepting applications for its 2006 Green Valley Boys Basketball Camp.
The camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 17 through 21 and is open to boys entering grades five through nine in the fall of 2006. The cost is $75. Each camper will receive a camp ball, a T-shirt and basketball cards.

Second Chance to host tourney
The second annual Second Chance Foundation golf tournament is scheduled for Monday at the Rio Secco Golf Club, 2851 Grand Hills Drive in Henderson.
Registration begins at 6:30 a.m., followed by a best-ball scramble at 7:30 a.m. and a barbecue lunch and raffle at 12:30 p.m.
The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the nonprofit governing body of high school athletics in the state, recognized the top 10 student-athletes from Southern Nevada at its banquet, presented by Lifetouch Photography, on May 22 at Sam's Town.
The NIAA considers this awards program its most important of the year.

Youth program sets fall registrations
Henderson United Youth Soccer will hold registration for its fall season for boys and girls ages 4 to 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Dick's Sporting Goods, 1308 W. Sunset Road in the Galleria at Sunset mall.
The Henderson Senior Softball League's Summer 2 Season is now underway and the league is looking for players ages 40 and over who would like to participate.
Top Intermountain juniors competed in the USTA Intermountain Summer Sectional Championship held June 12-17 in Boise, Idaho. Players in each age division vied for the top four endorsement spots which grant them automatic entrance into the USTA National Clay Court Championships and USTA National Hard Court Championships.
Representing the area were Ryan Gormley, Frideric Prandecki and Jonathan Ribaste (Boys 18s); Shauna Morgan, Asia Muhammad, Candynce Boney and Sheryl Bon (Girls 18s); Bryan Miller, Stan Breland, Brandon Parker, Alex Zara, David Nichols, Jimmy Lovett and Zachary Macaraeg (Boys 16s); Jade Frampton and Julia Baltas (Girls 16s); Evan Song, Jeff Vongman and Diego Gutierrez (Boys 14s); Anita Lee and Chrissy Uriarte (Girls 14s); Brian Patrick Foley, Brendan Aguilar and Yannik and Nicholas Mahlangu (Boys 12s); and Kimberly Yee, Gabrielle Smith and Marina Arriola (Girls 12s). Gormley and Yee were the top seeds in their age groups.
Bishop Gorman High School graduates Catrina and Christian Thompson were named All-Americans for a second straight year for their doubles play at the University of Notre Dame by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
The duo finished 10th in the final ITA rankings and compiled a 22-7 record in doubles play for the Fighting Irish.
Free clinics offered for beginners, novices
The David Pate Junior Tennis Foundation is sponsoring free tennis clinics for beginner and novice players ages 7 to 14. Dates are Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The clinics started June 19 and last five weeks at Bally's tennis courts, 3645 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
