Clark County Aquatics will be offering several events in June, including a Luau Theme Party set for 1 p.m. June 22 at Desert Breeze Water Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road. The afternoon will include swimming, games and a live DJ. Regular admission fees apply for this event.
The first Splash-N-Dash will be held at 8 a.m. on June 24 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. It is for participants ages 16 and older. The Splash-N-Dash consists of a 500-yard swim and 1-mile run. The first twenty-five participants to register will receive a free commemorative event T-shirt. Participation fee is $5. Space is limited.
Hot Summer Nights will be a special late night of family open swim from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 24 at Paradise, Parkdale and Walnut Water Parks. Regular admission fees apply for this event.
The city of Las Vegas announces its annual Splash Box Derby will be held June 24 at Pavilion Center Pool, 101 S. Pavilion Center Drive. Check-in begins at 5 p.m.. The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and the "away all boats" call will be at 6:15 p.m.
Refreshments will be available for purchase. Fees are $7 per creation entry and $1 for spectators.

Portrayal of Sojourner Truth set
As part of the Downtown Cultural Series, Kim Russell is scheduled to portray Sojourner Truth at 12 p.m. Friday at the Lloyd D. George U.S. Courthouse, 333 Las Vegas Boulevard South,
Sojourner Truth was an outspoken 19th-century anti-slavery feminist. Admission to the event is free admission.

Community Day Out Block Party will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ed Fountain Park, located at Vegas Drive at Decatur Boulevard.

Juneteenth returns to Lorenzi Park
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration to mark the end of slavery in America. It is celebrated all across America.
In Las Vegas, Juneteenth will be celebrated from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza at Lorenzi Park, 700 Twin Lakes Drive. The event is free and open to the public.
Hip-hop artist Doug E. Fresh and jazz instrumentalist Najee are slated to make special guest appearances. This is the sixth year the event will be held at the Sammy Davis Jr. Plaza. There will be games for children, live entertainment form local bands, artists and dance groups, prizes and food for purchase.

Star Party planned at Red Rock Canyon
The Las Vegas Astronomical Society announces its Star Party program will be held Saturday at the Red Rock Conservation Area. The program begins at 8 p.m. in the Visitor Center with a presentation on how stars live and die. Telescopes will be set up for viewing the night sky. The program is free and open to the public. Students are especially welcome. Park gates close at 8:30 p.m.
Wayne Jefferies and Clark County Parks and Recreation announce Red, White and Boom, Las Vegas' only outdoor music festival celebrating Independence Day, is expanding to two days this year. The 12th annual event is planned for July 3 and 4 at Desert Breeze Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.
Tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets. Admission is $17.50 per day in advance or $22 on the day of event, with a special $30 two-day pass available in advance only. A limited number of two-day VIP passes are available for $150 each. This year's festival boasts an expanded lineup of big-name contemporary rock and pop acts, as well as a carnival, games and exhibitions, food and beverage vendors and a 20-minute fireworks show on the Fourth. Scheduled acts include Social Distortion, Train, Ne-Yo and Colin Hay of Men at Work.
Nevada Cancer Institute (NVCI) has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). Among the technology NVCI is offering to help research and detect cancer is digital mammography. Research has shown that digital mammography significantly improve the capability to diagnose breast cancer.

Temple Bet Emet marks 10th year
Temple Bet Emet of Sun City Summerlin plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary with evening services at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Mountain Shadows Community Center, 9107 Del Webb Blvd. Judge Michael Cherry is the slated guest speaker and will discuss the court system and current challenges facing Las Vegas and the state. Members of the community are invited to attend.
Bet Emet started with a small senior group that was looking for spiritual experience and extended family. Membership has grown from 125 to almost 400 in the last four years.
