A taste of home
Troops get a sweet donation thanks to Girl Scouts

When it comes to United States troops stationed overseas, nothing, it seems, is missed as much as that much-anticipated delicacy, that claim of every American's birthright, the anathema of every failed diet, Girl Scout cookies.

Phil Randazzo, founder of Nevada Benefits Foundation, a nonprofit organization created to support U.S. troops and their families, helped see to it that the troops were not disappointed. Working with the Girl Scouts Frontier Council and relying on community support, the troops were sent the irresistible cookies.

Summerlin director to show at CineVegas
Comedy short cost only $50 to produce

The week-long 2006 CineVegas Film Festival begins Saturday at Brenden Theatres in the Palms. It features new independent films seeking distribution, movies by risk takers from the underground and homegrown Nevada film fare.

One of those homegrown risk takers is Summerlin resident Shane Valdez, 25, the director of a short titled "19 Miles To Vegas."
