Clark County Aquatics will present Bingo by the Beachside for seniors from 9 to 11 a.m. on Monday at the Whitney Neighborhood Pool, 5712 E. Missouri Ave. The event is free and will include bingo for prizes, fruit smoothies and a water aerobics demonstration. Seniors interested in participating in the water aerobics demonstration should bring a bathing suit.
Desert Breeze Water Park, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, is slated to host a Luau Theme Party from 1 to 5 p.m. June 22. The afternoon will include swimming, games and a live DJ. Regular admission fees apply.
The first Splash-N-Dash will be held at 8 a.m. on June 24 in Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road. It is for participants ages 16 and older. The Splash-N-Dash consists of a 500-yard swim and 1-mile run. The first 25 participants to register will receive a free commemorative event T-shirt. Participation fee is $5. Space is limited.
Hot Summer Nights will be a special late night of family open swim from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 24 at Paradise, Parkdale and Walnut water parks. Regular admission fees apply.
The Asylum Theatre will present its inaugural production of "The Devil, the Damsel and Demon Rum," a new musical comedy in the style of the old melodrama, at 8 p.m. Monday through June 16, and at 2 p.m. June 17 at Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive. The production will be the first musical for the company, which was formed in 1997 to develop new work and produce plays for inaugural viewing.
Tickets to the opening night show and reception are $20. All other performances are $15. Group rates are available.
The Las Vegas Art Museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave., will show Adventures in a Temperate Climate: A Retrospective Exhibition of Paintings by Martin Mull beginning Sunday and running through Aug. 25. It is a comprehensive survey of paintings featuring appropriated imagery that critiques Midwestern culture by the California artist.
The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors 55 years and older, $3 for students 13 years and older and free for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult.
One Queensridge Place announces the completion of its first phase of custom home condominiums located at the southwest corner of Alta Drive and Rampart Boulevard, within the Queensridge master-planned community. It is the first vertical custom home condominium residential development situated within the Las Vegas suburbs.
One Queensridge Place is approved for a total of 385 homes with current prices ranging from approximately $1.6 million to more than $20 million. The two 18-story buildings' recent topping-off marks the first phase of development, consisting of 219 homes. Phase two is planned to include an additional 18-story building as well as a 14-story building.
Senior David Kim and teacher Robert D. Allen, both from The Meadows School, received the 2005-06 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement.
The program recognizes students who score the highest marks on the College Board's Advanced Placement Program science and math courses, as well as the teachers who are leading the nation in participation and performance in AP science and math courses. More than 300,000 students take AP math and science exams every year, and Kim is one of two state student winners to receive a $2,000 college scholarship. Allen, the only state teacher winner, will receive a $1,000 award.
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society plans to close its 43rd season with a program featuring the music of Jerome Kern and George Gershwin at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at the Horn Theatre at CCSN, 3200 E. Cheyenne Blvd. The Kern-Gershwin concert, under the direction of Dr. Douglas R. Peterson, will feature the Musical Arts Chorus and guest soloists including Sidra Kain, Mary Jo Rhodes, Carolyn Peterson, Robert Peterson, Kaymen Carter and John A. Smith.

Star Party set for Red Rock Canyon
The Las Vegas Astronomical Society will hold its Star Party program at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area on June 17. The program begins at 8 p.m. in the Visitors Center with a presentation on how stars live and die. Telescopes will be set up for viewing the night sky.
The program is free and open to the public. Students are welcome. Park gates close at 8:30 p.m.
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services invites residents to a free Father's Day concert with the Tony Scodwell Big Band beginning at 7 p.m. June 18 at the Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, 720 Twin Lakes Drive, in Lorenzi Park. Park gates open at 6 p.m.
Picnics are welcome. Hot dogs, chips and soda will be available while supplies last.

Lakes group seeks input
A kickoff meeting for the 2006 Lakes Festival of Lights will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Captain's Cove restaurant, 2902 Lake East Drive. Residents are invited to come out and share ideas for this year's festival.
To encourage public awareness and understanding of philanthropy in Southern Nevada, the Las Vegas chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) will, for the first time, open nominations to the public for the National Philanthropy Day Awards. The Las Vegas chapter will celebrate its 15th annual presentation of the National Philanthropy Day awards with a luncheon on Nov. 17 at the Rio. This year AFP will honor individuals and organizations whose philanthropic endeavors have made a significant impact on the quality of life for the residents of Southern Nevada. Categories include Outstanding Philanthropist, Outstanding Corporation/Foundation, Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser and Outstanding Fundraising Executive.
