Building a resource
Programs at new facility to target all local age groups

Ground was recently broken on the new Pearson Community Center, a $10.5 million project planned at the southwest corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Carey Avenue in West Las Vegas.

The 40,000-square-foot center will be managed by the Las Vegas-Clark County Urban League, a nonprofit organization that provides various social services.

Area athletes rack up wins in national junior tennis tournaments

Several junior tennis players from Southern Nevada had outstanding results in three major national tournaments held in May.

Three national events -- the Muterspaw Championships, held May 5-7 in Las Vegas; the USTA National Opens, held May 20-24 at multiple locations; and the Roxy/Quiksilver Junior Open Championships, held May 27-30 in Costa Mesa, Calif. -- saw a number of Southern Nevada juniors advancing to the semifinals and finals of multiple divisions.
