Some places in North Las Vegas are just a mess, have been for a long time and don't appear to be getting any better, city officials said.

In an effort to try to keep graffiti, trash and other unsightly aspects of the community from getting worse, the City Council recently decided to undertake a beautification program that, in a couple of years, could cost $1 million or more.
