Temple Beth Sholom, 10700 Havenwood Lane, is sponsoring an art exhibit and sale slated to run Jan. 28 through Feb. 5.
Titled the Expressions Art Exhibit, a preview reception is planned for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28.
Along with viewing artwork, patrons can enjoy wine and cheese at the reception and mingle with the artists. Reception tickets are $50 per person.
The Expressions Art Exhibit has been called the largest and most diverse collection of Israeli art offered in the U.S. and is a major fund raiser for the Temple.
The collection's curator is Itzhak Assour, an Israeli Army paratrooper who found himself reevaluating life after sustaining major injuries in the line of duty. Sculpting helped him through three years of rehabilitation and he later aspired to help fellow Israeli artists. The result is the Expressions Art Exhibit and Sale.
Dr. Libby Lumpkin, noted art historian, curator and educator will speak at Temple Beth Sholom on "The Difference Between Collecting and Shopping: The Serious Business of Collecting Contemporary Art." The presentation is slated to take place 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1st to complement the Israeli art exhibit and sale. Admission to Lumpkin's program is $10.
Other planned programs will include: stained glass artists Rita Abbey and Riki Dubow 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 29; Bruce Steivel of the Nevada Ballet Theatre 7 p.m. Jan. 30; "Take Me Morris," an Israeli comedy done in Hebrew, 8:30 p.m. Jan. 31; Naomi Arin, owner of DUST, speaking on finding art year-round in Las Vegas, 7 p.m. Feb. 2; Oy, To Be Jewish In Las Vegas; an evening of adult storytelling, 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
