The Henderson/Green Valley Elks Lodge No. 2802 has Most Valuable Student Scholarships available.
High school seniors who will graduate this spring are eligible. Scholarship applications can be found at local high school counseling offices or at the Elks Lodge at 631 E. Lake Mead Parkway. Students can also download applications by visiting www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm.

Parrot Head Party to raise funds
The Henderson/Green Valley Elks Lodge will hold its annual Parrot Head Party at 5 p.m. Saturday with proceeds going to local charities such as the Nevada Elks State Project, Safe Haven, Boy Scouts of America and VH-1's Save the Music program. Last year's event raised over $45,000 for local charities.
The party will feature entertainment provided by Tommy Rocker and his band Conched Out, and food such as "cheeseburgers in paradise," fries, chicken wings and more.

Top gubernatorial candidates to speak
The Nevada Development Authority will feature five of Nevada's top gubernatorial candidates at its meeting, beginning with breakfast and a half hour of networking at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Stardust.
The candidates scheduled to speak are: Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt; Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., Henderson Mayor James Gibson; Dina Titus, D-Las Vegas; and gubernatorial candidate Bob Beers.

Musical Arts Society accepting members
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society is accepting members for its 43rd season. There are openings in all voice parts.
Mozart's "Requiem" will be performed in March in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the composer's birthday.

Jazz orchestra performs concert
The Nevada Jazz Orchestra begins their 13th season with a concert, which will include "Like Someone in Love," featuring alto saxophonist Fred Haller, and "Ya Gotta Have It," an up-tempo song with many soloists. The program is set for 2 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the Winchester Cultural Center, 3130 S. McLeod Drive.
Tickets are $17 for general admission, $12 for students and seniors and $8 for Las Vegas Jazz Society and Guitar Society members and are available in advance.
