AUDITIONS

Signature Productions plans open casting call

Auditions for "Into The Woods" will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and 1 p.m. on Saturday at the Nevada Ballet Theatre, 1651 Inner Circle Drive.

All roles are available, and men and women ages 14 and older can audition. Participants may be asked to read or participate in improvisations.

Participants must bring a picture and resumè and come dressed for movement. They also must prepare 20 bars of a song from "Into The Woods" or another similar show. An accompanist will be provided.

Goddesses to host Pom Girls auditions

The Arena Football League's Las Vegas Gladiators dance team, the Gladiator Goddesses, will host tryouts for the Pom Girls, a spirit and pom-pom team.

Tryouts will be from 7-10 p.m. on Jan. 25 at Gustav Mauler's Sazio restaurant in The Orleans, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.

Fire Explorer program to recruit students

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue will hold an open recruitment and orientation to teach young adults about fire service and its career possibilities.

Fire service and emergency medical training will be offered. The orientation and recruitment will be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sunday at the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Training Center, 633 N. Mojave Road.

Students start tortoise watch at Red Rock

Children of the Las Vegas Valley are beginning to watch the weather and predict when Mojave Max, the live desert tortoise residing at Red Rock National Conservation Area, will first emerge from his burrow in the spring.

The child that predicts the date and time closest to the actual emergence will win one of several prizes, including a personal computer for his or her teacher, a video game system, or a pizza party and field trip to Red Rock for his or her class.
