DONATION

Group gives $36K to kids' cancer cause

The Las Vegas Founders recently donated $36,000 to the Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer. The money will be used for direct financial support for the families whose children are fighting cancer. The funds can be used for rent, car and utility payments.

Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer helps provide food vouchers for families with children in the hospital, as well as assistance in travel and lodging for families whose children are being treated out of town.

Faith Lutheran to present 'Annie'

The Faith Lutheran Theatre Company will present a three-show performance of "Annie" at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the gymnasium at the school, 2015 S. Hualapai Way.

Women's golf group kicks off spring

The Las Vegas Chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association invites women interested in golf, fashion, food and friendship to attend the spring membership kick-off event at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cili at the Bali Hai Golf Club, 5160 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

The free event will include complimentary wine and appetizers and will feature fashions by Bette & Court, Jamie Sadock, FootJoy, Nike, and more. Joining in the festivity will be local golf professionals, on-hand to answer questions about getting into the game and tips for improving a handicap.

Business plans anniversary bash

Not Just Antiques Mart, 1422 Western Ave., plans to mark its first anniversary with a celebration at 6 p.m. Friday.

Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and an Elvis impersonator are expected to make appearances. The event also will feature live music, refreshments, tarot readings, hot dogs and valet parking.

Event set for animals and their owners

The Mutts 'n' Masters 5K Run and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk is slated to begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 North Pavilion Center Drive. The Masters and Muttsters of the ceremony will be Las Vegas Ward 2 City Councilman Steve Wolfson and his dogs, Kobe, Magic and Sunday, and KVBC-TV, Channel 3 weatherman John Fredericks and his dog, Jordan.

"This is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy our community and great weather, meet our neighbors and make new friends," Wolfson said. "The dogs have as much fun, if not more, than the participants."

For those who register for the 5K run prior to Saturday, the entry fee is $30. The registration fee for the 1-mile run/walk is $25. Race for the Cure accepting sign-ups

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has launched its online registration for the 2006 Race for the Cure at www.lvraceforthecure.com.

The race is scheduled for May 6 at the Fremont Street Experience and raises money for breast cancer research and community outreach programs. The cost to enter is $25, with senior, team and youth rates available.

Kits to raise awareness about colon cancer

During National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March, the American Cancer Society will seek to raise awareness that the disease is the third-leading cause of cancer death for men and women in the United States. Found in its earliest stages, the survival rate for colon cancer is 90 percent, according to the organization.

During March, a free informational kit on colon cancer will be available through the American Cancer Society.
