COMMUTING

New transit guides available for purchase

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada released its newly redesigned transit guide, highlighting changes to more than 35 transit routes now in effect.

The 2006 guide is available for purchase for 25 cents and will be valid until fall.

The guides can be purchased at the RTC Administrative Building, 600 S. Grand Central Parkway; the Downtown Transportation Center, 300 N. Casino Center Blvd.; the South Strip Transfer Terminal, 6675 Gilespie St.; on any RTC transit vehicle and at local RTC vendors.

Firm offers free tax preparation for police

Liberty Tax Service will offer free tax preparation to salute all members of the local police forces and state troopers for doing their jobs.

The offer will be in effect through March 4.

Knight of the Gael fundraiser scheduled

Bishop Gorman High School's Knight of the Gael fundraising event will take place on March 8 at Texas Station.

Cocktails and a reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by a gourmet dinner buffet and presentations at 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $250 per person or $2,500 for a table of 10. Of each admission, $50 is designated for the Bishop Gorman High School Tuition Assistance Fund.

The remainder of the net proceeds will support the general operating fund for the school.

The Volunteer Capital Campaign general chairman and cabinet have been chosen as the 2005 honorees for the 24th annual event.

The honorees are: Blake Sartini, Denise Cashman, Michael Morrissey, Pat Mulroy, Rossie Ralenkotter, Mary Ann Rivera, Christina Etter Roush, Julie Gilday Shaffer, Roxanne Shoen, James Silvestri and Tito Tiberti.

Famed guitarist to perform at UNLV

The UNLV Classical Guitar Series will include a performance by guitar legend Pepe Romero at 4 p.m. on Sunday in the Artemus Ham Concert Hall.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office, 895-2787, or by visiting www.pac.unlv.edu. The box office is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Born on March 8, 1944, in Málaga, Spain, Romero is the second son of the legendary Celedonio Romero, who was his only guitar teacher.

Pepe Romero's first professional appearance was in a shared concert with his father when Pepe was age 7.
