Artistic Framing, 821 S. Rainbow Blvd., plans a night of fine art titled Photography: From Traditional to Abstract, starting at 7 p.m. Friday. The two featured artists are photographers Larry Rogosch and Arthur Jacob.
Rogosch has been photographing Arizona, California, Utah and his home state of Nevada for the past 15 years. Jacob is a newcomer to Las Vegas, where he is continuing his profession as a photographer and artist.

Singers needed for Mozart's 'Requiem'
The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, now in its 43rd season, is accepting members for all voice parts. The Musical Arts Chorus and Orchestra plans to perform Mozart's "Requiem" in March to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the composer's birthday.

New ballet based on Shakespeare work
The Nevada Ballet Theatre will present a full-length ballet in three acts based upon Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 8 p.m. March 17 and 18, at 2 p.m. March 18, and at 1 and 4 p.m. March 19.

Collectibles show set for weekend
The Las Vegas Antique Bottles and Collectibles Club will hold its 41st annual Collectibles Show and Sale Friday and Saturday at the Plaza, 1 Main St.

Singing scientist to entertain kids
Wendy Whitten, the Singing Scientist, brings her friend Flumpa the Tree Frog to area libraries this month.
The Flumpa performance is a free, interactive, high-energy way to introduce little children in the mysteries of science.

City plans Mardi Gras extravaganza
The city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services will present the Mardi Gras and Gumbo Festival at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at Hills Park in Summerlin, on Hillpointe Road west of Rampart Boulevard.
Admission is free and $5 buys 20 tickets to food vendors and game booths. Families are invited to participate in the event, which will feature a variety of food and entertainment.

Hikers Seeking Hikers plans outings
A new program, Hikers Seeking Hikers, is a way for locals to meet people with similar outdoor interests. Events include a gathering of five men and five women or more finding new hikes in the Las Vegas area.
A hike for all ages is planned for Saturday. After the hike, participants will enjoy snacks and socialize in a picnic-style setting. Cost is $34.95 per person.
A new book group, Celebrate Romance, plans to meet on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 8915 W.Charleston Blvd.

ConAm Management to host three-day drive
A van will be accepting blood donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at ConAm Management, 2215 Renaissance Drive, and at other locations through Thursday.
Every person who donates blood will receive a voucher for two tickets to a Las Vegas Gladiators home game.
A goal has been set of 200 units of blood for the three-day drive.

City sponsors Medicare workshop
The city of Las Vegas and Ward 2 Councilman Steve Wolfson are sponsoring a Medicare prescription benefit workshop at 10 a.m. on Feb. 24 in the Veterans Memorial Leisure Service Center gymnasium, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.
"We want to ensure our seniors understand the plan and know what to do if they encounter issues with the program," Wolfson said.
