Charleston Heights Arts Center is showing artist Laura Kleger's photographs from her collection titled "Home Front." The subject of the show is the social landscape, both public and private, in post-Sept. 11 America.
The show will run through April 2 at 800 S. Brush St. Admission is free.
Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The exhibition is presented by the Cultural Affairs Division of the city of Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services.

New ballet based on Shakespeare work
The Nevada Ballet Theatre will present a ballet in three acts based upon Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at 8 p.m. March 17 and 18, at 2 p.m. March 18, and at 1 and 4 p.m. March 19.

Spring Mountain Ranch State Park began training sessions for volunteer docents on Feb. 5.
The training sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at the ranch, located in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Docents volunteer their time to provide visitors with historical accounts of the ranch, as well as to conduct tours of the historical areas.
Docents staff the ranch house during its hours of operation -- between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
They also may participate in the Super Summer Theatre season, the Living History program, Pioneer Living Day and the Sandstone Canyon hikes. The minimum time commitment for a docent is four hours per month.

Easter Seals to host 5K run and 1-mile hop
Easter Seals Southern Nevada has scheduled a 5K run and 1-mile Bunny Hop and Easter Egg Hunt for 8 a.m. on April 15 at the Desert Breeze Recreation Center, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Easter Seals to provide services to aid children and adults with special needs to help them lead more independent lives.
Registration for the event costs $25, and sponsorships are still available.
A new program, Hikers Seeking Hikers, is a way for locals to meet people with similar outdoor interests.
A hike for all ages is planned for Saturday. After the hike, participants will enjoy snacks and socialize in a picnic-style setting. Cost is $34.95 per person.
A new book group, Celebrate Romance, plans to meet the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 9 p.m. at Barnes and Noble Booksellers, 8915 W.Charleston Blvd.

Eyewear fashion event scheduled
Dr. Edward J. Malik and Eyes & Optics will host an eyewear fashion event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 3 to 4 at Eyes & Optics, 2261 S. Rainbow Blvd.
Designer representatives from several eyewear-making companies will be present. Among those expected to participate include Tag Heuer, Daniel Swarovski, FRED Paris and Alain Mikli.
During the event, the store will be offering discounts on select eyewear and lenses.
ConAm Management to host three-day drive
A van will be accepting blood donations from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at ConAm Management, 2215 Renaissance Drive, and at other locations through Thursday.
Every person who donates blood will receive a voucher for two tickets to a Las Vegas Gladiators home game.
A goal has been set of 200 units of blood for the three-day drive.

Southern Hills Hospital to host Baby Fair
Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center will host its second annual Baby Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 29 at the hospital, 9300 W. Sunset Road, near the Las Vegas Beltway.
The fair is free and open to the public. Attendees will enjoy free gifts, information on newborn care, educational sessions from medical experts, car seat safety checks and raffle prizes. Participants also have the opportunity to win the grand prize, consisting of 2,000 diapers or a full nursery furniture set.
Immunizations will be available for $15 per child with the presentation of records.

City of Las Vegas to offer lifeguard training
The city of Las Vegas municipal pool will host American Red Cross lifeguard training courses from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. from Feb. 20 through March 3.
The Aquatics Unit of the Department of Leisure Services' Recreation Division will be recruiting certified lifeguards to work at the city's pools this summer.
To work at the pools, lifeguards must be 16 years of age or older, must have completed 40 hours of course work, and must pass a water skills test to meet certification requirements.
