Elizabeth Brooks has been chosen by the Summerlin Lions Club as its student of the month for January.
Elizabeth is a senior at Cimarron-Memorial High School. The daughter of Mike and Debbie Brooks of Las Vegas, she is involved in varsity golf, basketball and softball, and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Last year, she won the USAA International Foreign Language Award and the USAA National Mathematics Award.
She likes browsing the Internet, working out, reading, going to movies, shopping and cleaning.
In the fall, Elizabeth plans to go to the University of Nevada, Reno. She's deciding between a career in criminal justice or becoming a math teacher.
North Las Vegas student Andrew T. Harris, 11, has been selected by the March of Dimes as its 2006 Ambassador Child for Southern Nevada.
Andrew is a fifth-grader at Watson Elementary School and is the son of Stephanie and Jason Harris, and big brother to Gillian, all of Las Vegas.
Andrew was born 14 weeks prematurely, lived in the hospital for his first 121 days and has undergone 22 surgeries to date.
He has learned to read and write braille, do math on an abacus, walk with a cane, and use all kinds of other advanced technology devices for blind and visually impaired individuals during the last year, while maintaining straight As and making the honor roll.
Andrew loves life, music, school, helping others, being outdoors and being a kid.
