The newest Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse opened on Feb. 3 at 6050 W. Craig Road. The ninth store in the valley also is the furthest north in Las Vegas.
The store's grand opening begins Wednesday and ends on Sunday. The five-day event will feature three giveaways including a $1,000 gift card, a truck box full of tools and eight pairs of tickets to the NASCAR Busch series at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
The gift card and tools will be given away at 4 p.m. on Sunday and the speedway tickets drawing will be at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Entries are now being accepted for all drawings.
The grand opening events also will include kid's clinics at 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Children can make airplanes, boats, race cars or bird houses. Clinics are free and all materials are provided.
Paint, flooring and home decorating clinics for adults will take place at various times through Sunday.
There will be three presentations including Paint Secrets for Your Home, given by Wall Wizard Brian Santos, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Decorating with Color presented by Susan Pike of Waverly Presents from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Jodi Marks of HGTV will be presenting Small Budget Projects for Your Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.
NASCAR driver Jimmy Johnson's Lowe's No. 48 car will be available for fans to have their picture taken with. The pictures will be available on the Internet at a Web site given out during the event.
The home improvement store has all the same amenities as other locations including an appliance department, a lawn and garden center, and lumber and commercial sales departments.
This facility is the only location in the valley to have an area where many departments come together so customers can see prototypes of kitchens. Other stores have all the components of a kitchen, including faucets, cabinets and appliances. But the Craig Road store has several full kitchens set up.
"The main difference from the other stores that have vignettes is that we have complete kitchens," said Dave Bye, sales manager.
The opening of this store has brought about 175 new jobs to the valley.
Scott Sessions, the store's manager, said that the majority of employees had not worked for Lowe's before. Some employees have changed locations to be closer to their northwest homes.
There are specialists in every area including flooring, cabinets and plumbing.
"Seasoned professionals bring their trade to us and we teach them the Lowe's way of doing things," Sessions said.
All employees are required to participate in training including information on products and safety.
"Every single associate has extensive safety training," Sessions said. "They have to pass a test with 100 percent.
As with all Lowe's stores, items can be delivered to customers' homes. Many items can be installed by contracted professionals including mini blinds, light fixtures, carpets and plumbing. Special order items take about two weeks to come in and they can be sent by UPS to the customer.
The new stores hours are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. For more information, visit www.lowes.com.
