The Arthritis Walk 2006 Las Vegas is planned for Saturday at UNLV's McDermott Plaza. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and the walk starts at 8 a.m.
The Arthritis Foundation's annual nationwide event raises awareness and funds to fight arthritis, the nation's leading cause of disability. An estimated 70 million men, women, teens and children live with arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.
Participants can choose to do a 3-mile or a 1-mile walking route, write an inspirational message on the Wall of Heroes and wear a blue hero hat if they have arthritis.
The Second Chance Foundation plans Light Up Las Vegas, a Candlelight Tribute for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Hills Park in Summerlin. Hundreds of people are expected to attend the event, designed to honor organ and tissue donors and their families as well as memorialize those individuals who passed away because the organ they needed to live was not available.

Heritage Month events slated
May is Asian Pacific Heritage Month and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is offering a number of programs for the entire family.
The Culture Fair and Fashion Dance Demonstration is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. Various groups will share their cultures through crafts, food dance, costumes and entertainment.
The Rainbow Library amphitheatre, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive, will host students from local martial arts schools demonstrating various styles at 7 p.m. May 12. Attendees are encouraged to bring a picnic.
The gallery at Summerlin Library, 1771 Inner Circle Drive, will feature the work of jewelry designer, Ling Yen-Jones.
Other programs include a Chinese calligraphy workshop and a film marathon featuring films from China, Japan, Vietnam and India. There are puppet shows and a percussion demonstration slated for young children as well as events just for teens.
A 5K Fun Run/Walk that benefits the Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of Southern Nevada is slated to begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Mountain's Edge Master Planned Community, at Blue Diamond Road and Buffalo Drive. Registration at 8 a.m.

Center to present Spring Craft Fair
Mirabelli Community Center, 6200 Hargrove Ave., plans its Spring Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Everyone is invited to the event, which will feature only handcrafted merchandise. Nothing will be priced at more than $35. There is no admission charge.

Red Hatters ring in six years of fun
More than 120 members of the local chapters of the Red Hat Society celebrated the group's sixth anniversary with a luncheon April 25 at the Red Rock Casino.
The day's event treated local Red Hatters to fellowship, a gift exchange and other fun surprises.
"Last year's celebration attracted ladies from a number of Red Hat chapters," said Celestine Green, event organizer and member of the Silver Swans Red Hatters. "We thought that if the birthday celebration could attract so many Red Hatters last year, surely the group celebration should continue each year."
Canyon Gate Country Club plans its sixth annual Taste of the Westside event 6 to 9 p.m. on May 8 to benefit The Shade Tree Organization. Canyon Gate Country Club is at 2001 Canyon Gate Drive.
This year's participants include Nora's Cuisine, Habib's Persian Cuisine, Fellini's and The Melting Pot. Each restaurant will bring samples from their menus for attendees to enjoy.
"We always look forward to this event because it allows people to sample wonderful restaurants and it also benefits a great cause," said Gina Ball, the country club's member relations director.
The Shade Tree Shelter of Homeless and Abused Women and Children assists and provides shelter for women and children who are in crisis while offering life-changing services promoting stability, dignity and self-reliance.
Ticket are $45 for Canyon Gate members and $55 for the public. The price includes access to the food stations from all the restaurants. There will be a cash bar.

CCSN will hold its Spring Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3 at the Cheyenne Campus, 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. Open to local residents as well as CCSN students, the fair will feature dozens of employers in the June Whitley Student Center.
More than 50 employers will conduct a variety of activities, including providing company information and job applications, accepting resumes, scheduling interviews and holding on-site interviews.

Canyon Hiking Tour heads out this week
The Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area Hiking Tour is planned for 7 to 11 a.m. May 10.
Lola Henio, coordinator for Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, will lead a group into the canyon and give a tour of a major petroglyph site. The moderately strenuous hike is limited to 20 people.

Groups present archaeology program
The Recent Archaeological Findings at Clark County Wetlands and the Valley of Fire presentation is planned for 7 p.m. May 11 at the Nevada State Museum & Historical Society building, 700 Twin Lakes Drive, inside Lorenzi Park.
