Johnson Junior High School held its school-wide talent contest March 30 and the winner was Michael Hickey. The sixth-grader wowed the audience with an act called "Rubberbandman," which included dance movements that left doubt as to whether he truly had a skeletal structure. He won $100 for his efforts.
Second place went to seventh-grader Lauren Episioco and sixth-grader Marisa Herrera for their dance number to "Sisters Are Doing It." Third place went to eighth-grader Amanda Gracia, who played guitar and sang "Godspeed."
Other contestants included: the Shining Stars singing and dancing group Dominique Northcutt, Tatiana Taylor and Tiffany Taylor; singer Brittany Spinella; singer Maya White; DJ Girls group Ashlyn Kramer and Lindsey Volz; tap dancer Chandra Bengston; and the Bite Size Krumpers rap and dance team Darius Corbett, Juan Landeros and Daryl Scott.
Tryouts earlier in the month whittled down the finalists by grade level. Each grade had three finalists. Johnson has had a talent show for three years, organized by drama teacher Ernie Rambo.
