Celebrity City Chorus wins championship
The Celebrity City Chorus chapter of Sweet Adelines International won the championship in the chorus competition at the 2006 regional convention on March 25 in Bakersfield, Calif.
This is the third consecutive championship for the chorus, which will go on to compete in October 2007 in Calgary, Canada.

Blood drive held for fallen officer Prendes
Union Member Discount Services, together with United Blood Services, is holding a blood drive in honor of Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sgt. Henry Prendes, who was killed in the line of duty in February.
The drive will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Tropicana Plaza, 1055 E. Tropicana Ave. Suite 425.

Walk planned to help those with HIV/AIDS
The 16th annual AIDS Walk will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday beginning at 3rd Street and Ogden Avenue.
The walk is 2.5 miles in length and will feature local entertainers.
Pre-registration forms are available at Blockbuster Video, the Tan Factory or the Aids for AIDS of Nevada office, 2300 S. Rancho Drive, Suite 211.
All proceeds raised will benefit individuals in the Las Vegas community living with HIV/AIDS.

FUNDRAISER
March of Dimes to hold walk
The Nevada Chapter of the March of Dimes will hold its WalkAmerica 2006 on April 29 in downtown Las Vegas. The 2.5-mile walk will begin with registration at 8 a.m. followed by the walk at 9 a.m.
Proceeds from WalkAmerica support the March of Dimes mission of preventing premature births, birth defects and infant mortality through research, education, community services and advocacy.

Vision Source to award student scholarships
Vision Source, a network of local optometrists, is awarding 10 scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to seniors graduating this spring from a high school in Las Vegas, North Las Vegas or Henderson.
Students must plan on attending a university, college, community college or trade school in the fall.

CCSN to celebrate 35-year milestone
CCSN will be celebrating its 35th anniversary during the Legacy of Achievement event at 6 p.m. on April 29 inside the Palace Ballroom
at Caesars Palace.
The event, to be hosted by the CCSN Foundation Inc., will feature a champagne reception, gourmet dinner, auction prizes, musical entertainment and a special program.

A youth rally sponsored by The Informer Ministries Inc. Missions will be held from 2-7 p.m. on April 29 at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road.

Woodsy Owl Day to be held May 20
The Super Summer Theatre's 10th annual Woodsy Owl Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 20 at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 10 miles West of the Las Vegas Beltway on Charleston Boulevard.
Woodsy Owl Day is geared to be a day of fun and entertainment for children, families and the young at heart. Live events include a tree-planting ceremony honoring Arbor Day, a patriotic Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps, the presentation of colors, arts and crafts, free wagon rides, a chance to climb aboard the Forest Service Fire engine, and kite flying with Boy Scout Troop 64.
Guests will include host of the day Woodsy Owl, McGruff the Crime Dog, Mohave Max, Las Vegas Speedway's mascot Nascar, a Las Vegas Gladiator, the Las Vegas 51s' mascot, and Sonio's friendly chicken.
Refreshments will be for sale, and families also are encouraged to bring their own picnic baskets.
CCSN Cheyenne plans Spring Career Fair
CCSN's Cheyenne campus is hosting its Spring Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 3 to match job seekers with employers.
More than 50 employers will provide company information, distribute job applications, accept resumes, schedule interviews and hold on-site interviews.

Memory Care Connection set for May
Care4Life and Willow Creek will be hosting Memory Care Connection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 6 at Acacia Springs, 8630 W. Nevso Drive, near Flamingo Road and Durango Drive.
Memory Care Connection is an educational and awareness-raising event about memory health, Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses, and offers caregiver strategies and community resources aimed at anyone who is interested in memory care or concerned about memory problems.
The day will include distribution of information and educational materials, alternative therapies to care for loved ones, door prizes and complimentary memory screenings.
Memory Care Connection is a national initiative of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America and is being held during Older Americans Month in May.

Southern Hills Hospital to host Baby Fair
Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center will host its second annual Baby Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 29 at the hospital, 9300 W. Sunset Road, near the Las Vegas Beltway.
The fair is free and open to the public. Attendees will enjoy free gifts, information on newborn care, educational sessions from medical experts, car seat safety checks and raffle prizes. Participants also will have the opportunity to win the grand prize, consisting of 2,000 diapers or a full nursery furniture set.
Immunizations will be available for $15 per child with the presentation of records.

Narrator to lead program at library
Award-winning narrator George Guidall will read several selections, answer questions and discuss the process, preparation and performance decisions that have enabled him to record more than 850 novels over the past 20 years.
The reading will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
