CONSTRUCTION

Closures expected along Pebble Road

Through at least Nov. 1, the Clark County Water Reclamation District will be closing lanes on Pebble Road from south Eastern Avenue to Topaz Street to upgrade its underground sewer equipment.

Workers will replace a lift station that will provide a new, larger station for pumping more wastewater through the system. During the project, one lane of Pebble Road will remain open in both directions from Eastern Avenue to Topaz Street. This is a school zone, so county officials are asking motorists to slow to 25 mph. For more information, call the water district at 853-1333 or visit www.cleanwaterteam.com.

EMPLOYMENT

Landscape architecture career night scheduled

The event will provide a forum for students to meet and learn more about potential employers. Any firm interested in participating is invited to contact Mark Hoversten at hoverstm@unlv.nevada.edu. Space will be provided to exhibit brochures and to present slide presentations. Refreshments will be served.

Sammy's to host charity wine tasting

Sammy's Woodfired Pizza is partnering with New Vista Community to host a charity wine tasting from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 20 at Sammy's Green Valley location, 4300 E. Sunset Road.

Sammy's sommelier Megan Burgess and executive chef Jeff Moogk will create a combination of tapas dishes to pair with specific wines that are being donated by Southern Wine and Spirits.

A portion of the proceeds will benefit New Vista Community, a nonprofit organization that provides supportive living accommodations for adults and children with disabilities.

Tickets are $35. For more information, call 457-4677 Ext. 3.

Blood drive aims to assist residents

United Blood Services and Palace Station are encouraging local residents, especially minorities, to join the National Bone Marrow Registry and donate blood from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday inside the Grand Ballroom on the second floor at 2411 W. Sahara Ave.

This drive is being sponsored to directly assist Las Vegans Janice Chang, Greek Gray and Madeline "Jeanette" Shelby Malik.

Those wishing to donate blood with United Blood Services must be at least 17 years old and weigh more than 110 pounds.

All donors must present proper identification. The typical donation time is about 45 to 60 minutes.

Those who take the 10-minute marrow blood test, which is free to all minorities and $25 for Caucasians, will be put on a national computerized registry.

Walk-ins are welcome, but to schedule an appointment, call 228-8400, Ext. 229.
