Car auction planned inside Hilton venue

Kruse International, an automobile auction company, will hold its 33rd annual auction this weekend.

The event will be open after noon on Friday and beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Las Vegas Hilton Convention Center.

One car to be featured is a 1987 Mercedes Benz 560 SL previously owned by Madonna.

Rec center closes for maintenance

The Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane, will be closed for general maintenance from April 17- 23. It will reopen April 24. For information, call 633-2550.

EASTER

Eggs are up at local library

An egg hunt will serve to mark the Easter holiday for children ages 12 and under in North Las Vegas.

The free event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon April 15 at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.

Along with the egg hunt, games, a story time and a visit by the Easter Bunny are scheduled. Call 633-1070 for more information.

LV Academy named Signature School

For the seventh year in a row, the Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts has been designated a Gold Grammy Signature School.

The academy will receive $5,000 that will be used to benefit its music program. It is one of only 42 schools across the country to be recognized by the Grammy Foundation, which honors schools it believes have exemplary music programs.

Career fair planned at CCSN campus

To match job-seekers with employers, CCSN will host its Spring Career Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 3 inside the June Whitley Student Center at the 3200 E. Cheyenne Ave. campus in North Las Vegas.

The fair is open to area residents, as well as students. More than 50 employers will be on hand, offering company information and job applications, accepting resumes, scheduling interviews and, in some cases, conducting on-site interviews.

Players open musical at fort

The Nickel City Players will offer its new musical "Lost in Time" from Friday to April 29 at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort, 500 E. Washington Ave. The performance is suitable for the entire family.

The fort will open each day at 6 p.m., with showtime at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for children ages 6-12, and free for children under age 6.

Bands to offer free classical concert

The UNLV Wind Orchestra will perform a free concert in conjunction with the UNLV Community Concert Band and the UNLV New Horizons Band.

Outdoorsman musician to perform at library

Walkin' Jim Stoltz will be at the West Las Vegas Library theater on Sunday to offer a free multimedia concert to celebrate the nation's wild lands.

A reception will be offered at 6 p.m., with Stoltz's performance set for 7 p.m. The library is located at 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.

This is the 20th anniversary of "Forever Wild," Stoltz's show that combines his photography, music, poetry and stories revolving around his 26,000 miles of wilderness walking.

The West Las Vegas Library event is being sponsored by the Friends of Nevada Wilderness, the Sierra Club, Red Rock Audubon, Citizen Alert, Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada and the Citizen Action Committee for Tule Springs.

SILVER SCREEN

Theater chain opens location at Cannery

Galaxy Theatres will expand its operations into Southern Nevada with its first location at the Cannery in North Las Vegas.

The $14 million state-of-the-art multiplex theater is set to open later this spring. It will feature 14 auditoriums with seating capacities ranging from 140 to 575.

Galaxy Theatres owns and operates 146 screens in theaters in Texas, California, Washington and Northern Nevada.

RAISING FUNDS

Lunch program to benefit Child Haven

The Children's Service Guild will host a lunch at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Plaza, 1 Main St., to assist with various programs for Child Haven residents.

Nate Tannenbaum is the planned emcee, with special guests Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and local TV personality Cathy Ray, who will model during a live fashion show.

Guests can make their own fashion statement by participating in a hat contest. An auction featuring jewelry and handbags is planned.
