Same name game
Summerlin club welcomes all who are called Lois

By JAN HOGAN
VIEW STAFF WRITER

It's a club with no dues, no fundraising campaigns, no secret handshake. The only requirement is your first name must be Lois. That's right, it's a club totally made up of those given that name.

The Lois Club was created in Minneapolis in 1979 and is now worldwide. In Las Vegas, there is a Lois Club that meets in Summerlin. It began January 2001 with its first meeting at the Country Inn on Rainbow Boulevard, now Memphis Championship Barbecue. About 13 people attended that first meeting. Now the group extends its membership to 49 people of all ages and from all parts of the valley.

Court is even in Sunset Region

By KEVIN STOTT

According to two of the most respected girls volleyball coaches in town, Durango's Bob Kelly and Palo Verde's Amy Rogers, the playing field is as level as it's been in a while this year -- both in their Sunset Region and in the valley as a whole.

Last season, Palo Verde won the region, defeating Bishop Gorman in three games in the Sunset final to advance to the state playoffs where the Panthers were eliminated by Northern No. 2-seed Douglas in four games.
