Teen earns top honor for his public service

Boys & Girls Clubs of Las Vegas has awarded its highest honor to club member Alejandro (Alex) Mentado, 17, naming him the 2005 Youth of the Year for the Las Vegas Valley.
Mentado, a 17-year-old Clark High School student, has been a member of the Boys & Girls Club since he was 11. His single mother works long hours in housecleaning and could not be home after he and his younger siblings finished school. So they were enrolled at the club.
