Preparing for the worst
Upgrades allow better experience for paramedics

Until recently, when paramedics with the Henderson Fire Department needed to practice and test their skills with invasive life-saving procedures, their best shot was classroom lectures and practice with a small, unrealistic machine or mannequin.

This spring, that training took a far more realistic turn as paramedics spent a day at the Henderson Fire Training Center working through a variety of trauma scenarios that included smoke, stage blood, human volunteers and a state-of-the-art human patient simulator known as Sim Man.

Former pro Steve Steadham opens local shop

After leaving the Las Vegas Valley in 1981, Steve Steadham didn't look back, even though he didn't think he was good enough to follow his dream of skateboarding for a living.

More than 20 years later, after skating professionally as a member of one of the sport's legendary teams, starting his own skateboard design company and running his own record production company, the 42-year-old Steadham finally returned to Las Vegas six months ago with a few new projects in mind.
