First day of school
Principal tends to details to ensure a smooth opening

Opening a new school is a complicated process that sometimes meets with a few glitches. During an early August campus tour, for example, Arbor View High School Principal Patrick Hayden voiced concerns that the school's athletic field may not be ready on time.

"We have our first home game Aug. 26," he said with a smile.

Preparing for kickoff
Season may not unfold like last year for Panthers

Last season, Palo Verde High School football coach Darwin Rost and his Panthers put the Sunset Region's Northwest Division on the map by capping a perfect 14-0 season with the Summerlin high school's first-ever state football title, thanks in great part to the play of seniors Jarrell Harrison, Marc Evans and Sam King.

This season, things should be a little more challenging, with Cheyenne and Shadow Ridge likely pushing the powerhouse Panthers for first place in the division.
