Ben Green, son of Midbar Kodesh Temple members Steven and Laurie Green of Henderson, received his Eagle Scout pin in a ceremony at Midbar Kodesh Temple.
Ben had his Eagle Board of Review in March and was awarded the Eagle rank at his Eagle Court of Honor, held at the synagogue on Aug. 22.
Ben began scouting in the first grade as a Tiger Cub and progressed through Wolf, Bear and two years of Webelo, advancing to Boy Scouts in January 2001.
Ben attended troop meetings, monthly campouts, as well as three summer camps. He has held the positions of scribe, chaplin's aides, and was appointed patrol leader for two terms.
Ben has earned more than 30 merit badges, and he has participated in service projects. He coordinated and planned the landscaping improvements at Midbar Kodesh in February, working with Valley Green Landscaping, volunteers from Midbar Kodesh Temple, scouts from Troop 420 and cub scouts from Pack 420.
Family and friends also were on hand to help with the day's work.
William Brandon Scott, son of Cheri Scott and Randy Scott of Las Vegas, participated in Acceptance Day ceremonies at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. The annual event marks the official acceptance of the class of 2008 into the ranks of the academy's regiment of midshipmen.
Scott, a Bishop Gorman High School graduate, along with 288 other plebes, was administered the academy oath by Vice Admiral Joseph D. Stewart, the institution's superintendent.
The members of the class of 2008 were additionally sworn into the U.S. Naval Reserve. Midshipman Scott was nominated to attend the academy by Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev. and Rep. John Porter, R-Nev.
The plebe class reported to the academy on July 9 for a two-week indoctrination program. Since then, the class of 2008 has been involved in academic and regimental education and training.
The academy is operated by the Maritime Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
