Favorite Sons & Daughters
View welcomes announcements of recent achievements of Favorite Sons & Daughters who have graduated from local high schools. Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. The Laub Scholarships, presented jointly by Southwest Gas and the Laub Foundation, honor the sons and daughters of Southwest Gas employees who have set and achieved high academic and personal standards. The four-year scholarships are renewable to students for their undergraduate studies at an accredited university, college or vocational school.
Tobi Anderson, Lora McMurtrie and Sarah Milano, 2004 graduates from Southern Nevada high schools, have been selected to receive Harold G. Laub four-year scholarships for the 2004-2005 academic year. The announcement was made by Jeffrey W. Shaw, Southwest Gas chief executive officer, and William M. Laub, Laub Foundation trustee and a former Southwest Gas CEO.
Anderson, the daughter of Mark and Teri Anderson of Las Vegas, graduated from Durango High School and is attending UNLV as a freshman, pursuing a degree in secondary education.
McMurtrie was the 2004 valedictorian at Clark High School, and has started her freshman year at the University of California, Berkley, pursuing a degree in mathematics or physics. She is the daughter of Edward and Loretta McMurtrie of Las Vegas.
Milano graduated from Coronado High School and has started her freshman year at UNLV. She plans to pursue a degree in elementary education. She is the daughter of Carol and Michael Milano of Henderson.
