Ethel M ready for a sweet Halloween

In keeping with its tradition of specialty holiday creations, Ethel M Chocolates recently rolled out a line of terrifying chocolates and gourmet holiday caramel apples. Ethel M's milk and dark chocolates are molded into the shapes of spiders, pumpkins and multi-colored "boo" shapes, which come packed with a holiday mask.

"The product that we put out during any holiday season is not about 'kid' chocolate or novelty chocolate. This is still the adult gourmet chocolate experience," company president John Haugh said. "We like to have fun with the holidays, but we try not to lose the essence of who we are."

The company also offers a variety of holiday jelly beans and flavored popcorn.

"All of the Ethel M product comes from this factory and has since we opened almost 23 years ago," Haugh said.

According to Haugh, Ethel M has its own in-house master chefs that create chocolate recipes, but they also work with various other chefs in the industry.

"Other pastry chefs in the area help us look for new flavors, recipes and designs, and also help with the overall artistry and presentation that go into Ethel M's chocolate," Haugh said.

Ethel M was opened in honor of Ethel Mars, the mother of Forrest Mars Sr., founder of M&M/Mars confections. Though Ethel M is a national company, Haugh said the company's local connection is most important.

"We are a nationally run company, but everything is done locally," Haugh said. "This is our home, and the most important thing to us is to keep people in the Las Vegas Valley happy and in great chocolate."

Ethel M is located at 1 Sunset Way. For more information, visit www.ethelm.com.
