Free academic test practices offered
Kaplan Test Prep is offering free practice tests at its Las Vegas Center, 4632 S. Maryland Parkway, across from UNLV. Tests set to be offered are: MCAT (Medical College Admission Test), DAT (Dental Admission Test) and GRE (Graduate Record Exam), all administered at 9 a.m. Saturday.

ANIMALS
Adoption event set for Saturday
Chancellor Gardens has scheduled an Animal Adoptions Ltd. adoptathon from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Animal Adoptions Ltd. is a no-kill animal rescue facility. Donations of dog and cat food, or pet supplies are also being accepted up to the date of the adoptions.

HEALTH
Men needed for prostate cancer study
Healthy men ages 55 and older (50 or older for African-American men) are needed for a prostate cancer prevention study, launched by the National Cancer Institute and Southern Nevada Cancer Research Foundation.
The study seeks to learn if Selenium and Vitamin E can protect against prostate cancer.

Fit for Life expo set for May 26
Fit for Life Expo is slated for May 26 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Heinrich YMCA, 4141 Meadows Lane.
The senior fitness event will include introductory classes to line dancing, tai chi, yoga, water aerobics, nia and more. Experts will discuss exercise with medical challenges, health education, and personal training.

Mommy and Me plans open house
Mommy and Me West has scheduled its monthly open house for 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 27 at the Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
Mommy and Me West is a nonprofit organization that provides enrichment activities for parents and children birth through age 5.

Koi Club planning pond tour, party
The Las Vegas Koi Club has planned its first annual pond tour and party for May 29.
Participants will drive their own car to tour 10 beautiful ponds featuring koi and plants. They will learn from the owners what it takes to have a successful pond in Las Vegas. At the end of the tour, there will be a gathering with the pond owners for a barbeque, raffle and fun.
Tickets are $25, which includes a map to the ponds and two tickets to the barbeque. For more information refer to the Las Vegas Koi Club Web site or call 656-1032.

Local chorale to perform Saturday
The Myron Heaton Chorale is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway. The public concert is free; however, a free-will offering is encouraged. Child care is available.

Puerto Rican group ready for festival
The Puerto Rican Association of Nevada has scheduled a Puerto Rican Memorial Day Festival from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 30 at Lorenzi Park.
The event will raise money for Hispanic student college scholarships. The Festival will feature live entertainment, crafts, Caribbean food and lots of fun for families to learn more about the Puerto Rican culture.
Admission is $5 per family; $3 for individuals. Caribbean food will be available for purchase. For more information, call 368-0454.
