Company is first to present free service

Ahola Payroll Services, the third oldest payroll company in the country, recently announced the processing and payment of the new Nevada Modified Business Tax for their clients, effective with the first quarterly report due in April 2004.

Ahola is the first payroll company in Las Vegas to offer the service free of charge to its clients. The Nevada Modified Business Tax is a quarterly payroll tax based on gross wages less any qualifying employer-paid health insurance costs. It became effective Oct. 1, 2003.

EVENTS

BBB to hold annual membership luncheon

The Better Business Bureau will hold its annual membership luncheon March 24 at the Stardust Hotel & Casino. The keynote speaker will be Rudy Ruettiger, motivational speaker, author and subject of the 1993 film, "Rudy."

The event is set for 11:30 a.m. The cost is $40 per person or $350 for a table of 10. For information, call 320-4545.

CONSTRUCTION

Projects start, finish around valley

Cottages of Green Valley recently broke ground on two new single-story cottages, each of which will have 12 private suites with living, dining and family rooms and an activity area for residents. Cottages provides services to individuals in need of assisted care. Crescent Development Co. will serve as general contractor for the $1 million, one-acre project at 2620 Robindale Road.

Core Construction recently announced the construction completion on the WCS Field Operations Center in Las Vegas. The project involved six separate structures, including a new administration building, warehouse facility, material handling building, wash bays and an addition to the existing information technology building.

Parsons Bros. Rockeries recently announced the construction completion of the rock retaining walls at Concordia Homes' Savannah community in Henderson.

Area businesses involved in giving

The Mesquite Resort Association's Health and Wellness Foundation recently donated four LifePack 500 defibrillators to the Mesquite Senior Center, Virgin Valley High School, Beaver Dam Fire Department and the Moapa Valley Senior Center.

The board of directors for the Las Vegas Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation has announced its 2004 grant recipients. They are: St. Rose Dominican Hospital, R.E.D. Rose Program and WomensCare Center and Breast Cancer Support Group; Mammovan for Nevada, Mammograms for the Underserved and Community Outreach in Southern Nevada; Economic Opportunity Board of Clark County, the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program; Center for Compassionate Care at Nathan Adelson Hospice, Breast Cancer Crisis Intervention and Counseling, and Breast Cancer Support Group; and the National Consortium of Breast Centers, a grant for local providers to attend the annual conference held in Las Vegas. A total of $204,550 was awarded to these Southern Nevada organizations by the Komen Foundation.

The Southern Nevada Multi-Housing Association recently presented a check for $5,465 to the American Red Cross. The money was raised during the Jillian's party and the Rustler's Roundup Installation Dinner, SNMA's two 2003 events.
