GOLF

Aliante tourney aids young mothers

The eighth annual charity golf tournament to benefit the New Start Home for Unwed Mothers is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at Aliante Golf Club in North Las Vegas.

The registration fee of $100 per player and $400 per team includes door prizes and a banquet. Registration fees the day of the tournament are $150 per player and $600 per team. Those interested can call 242-9850.

Sampson Memorial set for Paiute resort

The American Indian Film Institute has scheduled the Will Sampson Memorial Golf Classic July 17 at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

Sampson, who helped create the AIFI, is best remembered for his role as "Chief" Bromden in the film "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

CHEERLEADING

Extreme all-stars seek new members

The Extreme Cheer All-Stars competitive cheerleading club is seeking new members. The club features teams for students in grades kindergarten through 12 and ages 18 and older.

The registration fee is $100 for the nonprofit organization and includes a practice outfit. Warmups and uniforms are provided for competitions. The team practices at the Chuck Minker Sports Complex. Those interested can call 597-9294.

SOFTBALL

Fastpitch group registering players

The Southern Nevada Fastpitch Association's ASA girls softball league has scheduled registration for its Northwest and Summerlin areas. There are two divisions of play, for beginning to advanced skill levels, and the league is open to ages 6-18.

Registration is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and July 17 at Copeland's Sports, in the Best of the West Plaza. The registration fee is $75 for ages 8 and younger and $85 for ages 9 and older. Players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

DANCE

Summer camps set at Boyack's

Boyack's Dance Attack Summer Camp is scheduled from July 26-28 in Henderson and from July 29-31 in the Summerlin area.

The camp will feature professional instruction in hip-hop, jazz, ballet and more, with awards, a barbecue and a pool party included. Those who register before July 16 will receive a free T-shirt.

INSTRUCTION

Sports clinics set through August

Several Southern Nevada AAU youth sports clinics are scheduled each week, through Aug. 20, at Home Courts in Henderson. Players can choose from seven different sports each week -- baseball, boys and girls basketball, cheerleading, dance, softball, soccer and volleyball -- and each daily session is scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The registration fee is $125 per player, with discounts for multiple weeks and multiple children, and includes a clinic T-shirt, an AAU membership and prizes and awards.

Summer league open to all ages

The city of Las Vegas is accepting registration for a summer bocce league, which is open to all ages and all skill levels.

Contests are scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Patriot Park. The fee is $10 per session and those interested can call Marilyn or Stanley at 229-6374.

VOLLEYBALL

Skills clinic set

for Durango High

The Blazers All Skills Volleyball Clinic is scheduled for Monday to July 15 at Durango High School.

The camp is open to girls ages 11-17 and the registration fee is $125, which includes a clinic T-shirt. The clinic is slated from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day.

BASKETBALL

Tarkanian Academy

organizes camps

The Tarkanian Basketball Academy has scheduled several basketball camps in June, July and August, for ages 5 to 18.
