EDUCATION

Educators travel to study wetlands

Ten educators from the Clark County School District participated in an international professional learning workshop that will help prepare local teachers and students for the 2004-05 JASON Project expedition to the wetlands of Louisiana.

They received hands-on training from scientific experts at the JASON conference in Milwaukee from June 23-25. Upon return, they trained other teachers how to best integrate this year's JASON curriculum and multimedia tools into the classroom to create a real research environment for students.

The JASON Project is a provider of experienced-based science and math curriculum for grade four through 12.

The participants at the JASON conference are Linda Arnone and Patty Moore, White Middle School; Carmen Ross, Cimarron-Memorial High School; Gary Flood, Hancock Elementary; Sharon Pearson, Miller Elementary; Kelly Slear, Brinley Middle School; Judy Kraus, Gibson Elementary; Pam Locascio, Kesterson Elementary and Joyce Woodhouse and Candy Schneider, Clark County School District School-Community Partnership Program.

Bus applications due in July

The Clark County School District's Transportation Department is encouraging parents of students eligible for bus service to submit an application for the 2004-05 school year by July 30.

Those who submit an application on time, and are eligible, will receive bus service information through the mail. Information includes pick-up locations and times, bus route numbers and more. Bus service information letters will be mailed during the week of Aug. 16.

Those who fail to submit an application by July 30, will not receive information through the mail and will be required to contact the transportation department or visit a back-to-school fair to receive the specific information.

Fairs are scheduled for Aug. 14 and 15 at the Boulevard Mall; Aug. 21 and 22 at the Meadows mall, and Aug. 28 and 29 at Galleria at Sunset mall in Henderson.

Bus service applications and information can be found by visiting the district's Web site at www.ccsd.net/transportation or by calling 799-8111.
