DONATIONS

Public encouraged

to give blood

United Blood Services is urging the public to donate blood.

Extended donation hours have been established through Friday at the following locations: Main Center, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m..

Potential blood donors can call 233-9620 for appointments and directions or call 228-4483 for eligibility questions.

Street Teens seeks

personal products

Street Teens is asking for donations of food and hygiene items like shampoo and shaving cream to help it serve homeless young people.

"We can also use baby items, right now we especially have a need for diapers and/or pull-ups in bigger sizes," said Lisa Preston, director. "We have a lot of toddlers and large babies, and unfortunately most of the diapers we have right now are sized for infants."

Summerlin Hospital

clinic set for Saturday

The Summerlin Hospital Medical Center's Health & Fitness Jogging Clinic is slated for 2 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The hospital will have a wide range of health and fitness specialists there to advise on exercise and eating right.

The Las Vegas Running Team will be on hand as will In Direct Touch, giving five-minute chair massages. In addition, sign up for the ninth annual Komen Race for the Cure scheduled for May 1.

Leisure Services

looking for talent

Young people between between the ages of 6 and 18 who would like to audition for Las Vegas Department of Leisure Services' 25th annual Search for Talent Showcase must submit their entry forms by 2 p.m. Jan. 17. There is a $10 per person registration fee.

Auditions will be held at Reed Whipple Cultural Center, 821 Las Vegas Blvd. North, at 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. The Search for Talent Showcase is scheduled for March 27.

Acclaimed film

part of festival

The award-winning film "Train of Life," a comic fable about a community's will to survive, will be part of the Las Vegas Jewish Film Festival Jan. 15-19.

The film is scheduled to be shown at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Century Suncoast Cinema, 9090 Alta Drive in Summerlin.

The American Cancer Society is holding a liquid supplement drive through the end of January.

Donations of individual-sized cans and cases of products such as Boost and Ensure are used by local cancer patients and may be dropped off at the ACS office, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Benefit to aid arts

and local food banks

An event to acknowledge Las Vegas' art district as well as benefit local food banks is slated to be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Ice House lounge, 601 Main St.

Meet the mayor and enjoy appetizers and music. Proceeds to benefit the Las Vegas Downtown Arts District, Aid for Aids of Nevada Food Bank and Jewish Family Services Food Bank.

Viva Oy Vegas

set for January

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada has slated "A Walk Down Memory Lane -- Songs From the '50s, '60s and '70s" at the East Flamingo Clark County Library Theatre, 1401 East Flamingo Road for Jan. 10 and 11.

This is the fourth annual JCC production of the popular variety show, "Viva Oy Vegas." The performances times are slated for Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday, at 2 p.m.

The popular program showcases local, amateur talent and features live music provided by a local Klezmer band.

Tickets are priced as follows: Saturday evening, Jan. 10, $18 for JCC members and $25 for nonmembers. Sunday matinee, $12 for JCC members and $18 for nonmembers.

Art Quotient is now accepting submissions for the 2004 issue of the art annual for high school artists.

All submissions are guaranteed to be published. Entry fee is $30. The deadline is Jan. 30.

Health Projects

forming committee

Health Projects Nevada is forming a Community Advisory Committee to allow community volunteers to provide public guidance and support to its new Free Healthcare Clinics Project.

The project will provide free, primary health care to the families of working adults without any insurance. Clients must meet income guidelines.
