Achievements may run the gamut from earning a college degree to successfully climbing Mount Everest. Please include the name of the area high school and year graduated. Karey J. Griffith, Navy Seaman, is a 1995 graduate of Western High School. Griffith recently reported for duty aboard the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. He is the son of Phyllis Y. Griffith of Las Vegas.
Anthony J. Perez, Marine Corps Pvt., is a 2003 graduate of Centennial High School. Perez recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego. He is the son of Denise L. Barnes of Parker, Ariz. and Alfonso Perez of Las Vegas.
Kristen C. Perkins, a 2000 graduate of Palo Verde High School, graduated from San Diego State University in December 2003. Perkins was selected to attend SDSU on a ROTC Scholarship. She recently served as wing commander of her detachment and received Distinguished Graduate from her commander. Perkins was sworn in to the USAF as 2nd Lt. on December 20, 2003. She will be an aircraft maintenance officer stationed at a special operations base near Pensacola, Fla. Perkins is the daughter of Jim and Janie Perkins of Las Vegas.
Mary A. Santivasci, Navy Seaman, is a 2001 graduate of Silverado High School. Santivasci recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. She is the daughter of Charlene M. and Anthony J. Santivasci of Las Vegas.
Abbie Lynn Spoor, daughter of Ilene and Randy Spoor, graduated from the University Of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Education on Dec. 17. She will begin her teaching career in the Clark County School District. Spoor is currently completing her student teaching fifth grade at Doris French Elementary. Spoor is known as "Miss Abbie" at Midbar Kodesh Temple, where she began teaching in the preschool several years ago. She is currently teaching in the religious school and serves as a youth advisor for the second and third graders in the Katan group and the fourth, fifth and sixth graders in the Kadima group. Spoor has been dancing since she could walk and was captain of the ballroom dance team at UNLV, winning many competition awards. A graduate of Silverado High School, she has also won many acting awards. Her brothers Brian Spoor and Kevin Spoor, and grandmothers Helen Spoor and Pauline Greenfield, join her parents, family and friends in celebrating her achievements.
Harley D. Tomlinson, Marine Corps Reserve Pfc., is a 2003 graduate of Durango High School. Tomlinson completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
Shaun S. Vazquetelles, Marine Corps Pvt., is a 2003 graduate of Durango High School. Vazquetelles completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. He is the son of Yen-Jean and Ulyses M. Vazquetelles of Las Vegas.
