Railroad bridge
to be torn down
VIEW NEWSPAPERS
The Nevada Department of Transportation crews will be removing the old Union Pacific Railroad bridge over Interstate 15, between Russell Road and the Interstate 215 exits, beginning at 9 p.m. Feb. 20 and completing the job at 5 a.m. Feb. 23.
The construction schedule is tentative. There will be a variety of traffic shifts and I-15 ramp closures during the process as follows:
On Feb. 20, starting at 9 p.m. the left traffic lane in each direction will be closed for the removal of the center section of the bridge structure. At that time, all on and off ramps at Russell Road and the I-215 interchange will be open.
On Feb. 21, I-15 southbound traffic will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the center median after the bridge's center section is removed. Northbound traffic will not be affected as the western span of the old bridge above the freeway is taken down. While this is happening, the I-15 southbound on-ramp from Russell Road will be closed.
On Feb. 22, following the successful removal of the western half of the old bridge, I-15 southbound traffic will return to normal and the Russell Road on-ramp will reopen. However, while the eastern half of the bridge is removed northbound I-15 will be reduced to one lane and shifted to the center median. Likewise, the Russell Road and Frank Sinatra Drive exit ramp from northbound I-15 will be closed.
