Have you made your Valentine's Day restaurant reservations yet? At this time of year restaurant books are overflowing with requests for romantic table space.

To that end, local Sammy's Woodfired Pizza restaurants are offering a Valentine's-themed package that can be created in the comfort of one's own home. Dubbed a survival kit -- a holiday-decorated pizza box that includes pizza dough, cheese, sauce and the pizzeria's recipe -- allows couples, friends and families to do it themselves without the reservation. The end result is a heart-shaped pizza fit for two.

The pizza chain, which has three locations in Southern Nevada, has been offering the survival kits for the past several years. The concept was the result of an informal brainstorm by the company's executives.

"There was a group of us sitting around tossing around ideas," said Tom Penn, a company spokesman. "It's just a fun kind of family thing. It's something to share with someone else

The kits are available for free with the purchase of a pizza, pasta or a salad at any Sammy's Woodfired Pizza locations -- 3900 Paradise Road; 6500 W. Sahara Ave.; and 4300 E. Sunset Road -- from Sunday through Feb. 14. Kits can be purchased for $8.95 as well.
